Vietnam Airlines Signs Up to Buy Four Boeing 787 Dreamliners to Expand Its Fleet
HANOI, Vietnam (AP) -- Vietnam Airlines will buy four Boeing 787 Dreamliners as part of a plan to expand its fleet to meet increasing travel demands, an airline spokesman said Friday. Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has instructed the state-owned airline to complete the contract, which is expected to be signed during his visit to the United States on June 19-25, said spokesman Nguyen Chan.
Chicago-based Boeing Co. has said the wide-body jetliners will be delivered to the communist country in 2010. The deal is valued at about $500 million at list prices, although airlines usually negotiate discounts.
Khai will be the first Vietnamese prime minister to travel to Washington. Vietnam and the U.S. are former foes that normalized diplomatic relations 10 years ago.

How are they going to pay for them?

Maybe the Discovery Channel will make a documentary entitled, "A380: Death of the SuperDodo". Or perhaps we'll see the A380 featured on an episode of Engineering Disasters.
Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? ;o)

Airbus must be spinning in its future grave. Is it just me, or has Boeing been beating Airbus like a dog ever since Airbust announced the 380? It appears that Boeing is pasting them on all sides.

LOL. Boeing got it right with marketing a medium-large format. They listened to the voice of the customer.
I have no clue who Airbus listens to, except maybe their own vainglorious executive management.

Boeing got it right with marketing a medium-large format. They listened to the voice of the customer. That's because any large airport that can handle the 777-200ER can easily handle the 787-8 and 787-9 models. No need to widen runways/taxiways and totally rebuild terminals like you need with the A380!

What in the world was Airbus thinking? Did they really think/imagine that major airports around the world were going to spend billions because of their new rollout?
I have to think they did a query and got some ownership with the airports before they started the design, but what about the aircraft market itself?
Were they second-guessing the airlines?

French Airbus had to build the largest airplane to compensate for their inadaquences.
