While I'd love to see Ted Olsen on the bench, he left Government for private lawfirm work - probably for the paycheck, and to get away from being stymied by Dimorats in Gommint.

But an appt. as Supreme Court Judge? I find it difficult to imagine the circumstances where he'd turn that down.

JMHO.

If Graham and DeWine do this, it would certainly show conservatives that they are back to agreeing with the base on Judicial Nominations. Politically it would be the smartest decision they ever made, but I can't tell if they are too stupid to realize this fact or not. The bottom line for these heathen is that they can either take the carrot or the stick politically on this issue and it will decide their future with the Party.

Pres. Bush just went all in!!! It'll be fun to watch the so called deal fall apart like a house of cards.

This will be a devastating blow to the dim party and their causes as we know it. It'll show their members just how powerless the party really is.

Furthermore, more and more people will see that there is no reason to throw good money to a powerless party that really has no chance of winning the House or Senate for years to come.

It's a mandate, but since it was a little closer than you stated, it was Bush (50.73%) to Kerry (48.27%), which is a 2.46% margin. This translates to a 'popular' vote victory of 3,012,499 votes over Kerry. Not quite the 4 million votes that you posit...

They won't even have to go to that trouble.

All they have to do is say, "It's not a filibuster."

Well maybe he's a closet freeper! Actually it is more likely Karl Rove is, the evil genius. And they of course so how savvy the freepers are, in our pajamas and everything. :)

Now that Democrats have agreed not to filibuster any new candidates except in "extraordinary circumstances," Republicans are eager to test the proposition.

LMAO!!!

That "deal" had to be dreamed up by the ghost of Lee Atwater while having breakfast with Karl Rove! I am still shaking my head in disbelief that the Democrats agreed to NOT filibuster while getting NOTHING in return except for a promise from a few Republican Senators not to "go nuclear". Well, friggin DUH! - - Why "go nuclear" if there's no filibusters and you don't HAVE TO???

Of course, if the rats go back on their promise (which they no doubt will), then the deal is OFF and the Republicans.... go nuclear! But NOW when the Republicans go nuclear they can shrug and say, "Hey, the Democrats broke their promise and so we had no choice." This deal ended up providing the perfect cover for some of these nervous "blue state" Senators. If Frist didn't have the votes before, he'll sure have them when the time comes to push the button. It's just unbelievable! LOL, I wonder if Harry Reid is in the market for a bridge somewhere....?

(By the way, I heard Rush's show today and I was floored that he STILL doesn't get it. All he talked about was how the rats will break the deal and start to filibuster again. Hello, Rush? That's the whole idea, my brother! You never once mentioned that Frist STILL has his finger hovering over that nuke button. Remember that nuke button? It's still there....)
