The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix - Daily Terrorism Threat
Threat Matrix: U.S. Terrorism
Expert: Al-Qaida Has Presence In South Florida
Full Story

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Despite the massive federal, state and local law enforcement effort to stop terrorists from entering the United States, there is no strong evidence of how well it is working.

Many experts are concerned that there are plenty of terrorists or sympathizers already in the country who have been here for years. Some are even citizens.

The Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers were the first wave and now the increasing number of arrests seems to signal a second wave of terrorism in South Florida.

Timeline for WTC 1993 bombing. Thanks Cindy for the link...found some amazing info. and names on the site listed below that I found while looking for a timeline. Just a quick perusal will give you and idea of how they plan, get into the country work together, etc. With this info. being from '92 & '93, I can't imagine how much more sophisticated they have become in their planning.

"In January 1993, Yousef and Salameh moved into another Jersey City apartment where the bomb was actually built. Set well back from the street, the building provided seclusion. On February 21 a twenty-one year old Palestinian named Eyyad Ismail arrived from Dallas. Ismail is charged with having driven the bomb-laden van.[8] On February 23, Salameh went to a Ryder rental agency to rent the van to carry the bomb. On the morning of February 26, the conspirators gathered at a local Shell gas station where they topped up the tank--one last explosive touch--before driving to Manhattan. Shortly after noon, the bomb went off, on--let it be well noted--the second anniversary of the ending of the Gulf War."

The following bears dissemination.

sub6
___________

Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and tried to light it?

Did you know his trial is over?
Did you know he was sentenced?
Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV/Radio?
Didn't think so.

Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.
Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say.

His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record,
Reid also admitted his "allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the religion of Allah," defiantly stated "I think I will not apologize for my actions," and told the court "I am at war with your country."

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid. Judge Young:

"Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutive with the other.

That's 80 years. On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years consecutive to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 for the aggregate fine of $2 million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines. The Court imposes upon you the $800 special assessment.

The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further. This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.

Let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is all too much war talk here and I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether it is the officers of government who do it or your attorney who does it, or if you think you are a soldier. You are not----- you are a terrorist . And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice!

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You're no warrior. I've know warriors You are a terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and where the TV crews were, and he said: "You're no big deal."

You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing. And I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record, it comes as close to understanding as I know

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom. It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom. So that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf and have filed appeals, will go on in their representation of you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake though. It is yet true that we will bare any burden; pay any price, to preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. Day after tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure. Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America, the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America. That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands for freedom. And it always will.

Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.

This one in particular stood out. Particularly in light of the Iraqis they caught trying to cross the Mexican border a couple of weeks ago. I can't help but think London is only the beginning. It's taken them a couple of years since 9/11 to get their cells in place here.

It could be that AQ wants to divert everyone's attention to the rail system then while everyone's focused subways, etc., they go for their big-ticket targets (i.e., malls, landmarks, maybe even N-plants).

They have been very patterned over the years. Evaluating the pattern is one of the first, basic methods of evaluating an opponent.

First the car bombings throughout the ME and carried over into Iraq. First WTC attack, Beriut, Saudi Arabia, African embassies to name a few.

The 911 attacks were outside of the box for them, except for the coordination.

Now a second, non-ME metropolitan attack, focusing upon mass transit. Seems to be a pattern developing. I do not discount car bomb attacks against malls, they would be a high priority IMHO and within their MO and capability. However, their MO doesn't support attacks against landmarks or Nuke plants.

Because of personnel and resource requirements, terrorists will generally stick with a tried and proven method of operation. Those with the least potential for discovery are favored. Training and preparation are more simple for a suicide bombing than for a more complex attack upon a nuke facility.

Iraqi, U.S. Soldiers Hunt for Terrorist Cells

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, July 7, 2005 – U.S. and Iraqi soldiers conducted a cordon-and-search mission in the early-morning hours of July 6 to search for terrorist cells in western Baghdad.
Iraqi soldiers from 2nd and 3rd platoons, D Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Iraqi Army Brigade, and a U.S. scout platoon from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 156th Armor Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, participated in the operation.

The result was the capture of seven detainees, five AK-47 assault rifles, two pistols, up to 20 fully loaded magazines, and assorted weaponry and documents, including material for making identification badges for U.S. contractor Kellogg Brown & Root, and possible imagery maps of the area.

Not long after the first detainee was positively identified, he provided intelligence of a nearby meeting site. Upon searching the specified location, forces arrested a man and a woman who were making false KBR badges. Army 1st Lt. Jason Warren from Alexandria, Va., a platoon leader for the U.S. Army unit involved, said the mission was a joint operation between the U.S. and Iraqi armies. "We did our best to adapt to the situation, and in the end we found more suspicious activity and stolen military equipment," he said.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Thomas Plunkett from New Orleans, the battalion's commander, said his soldiers cordoned the perimeter while the Iraqi soldiers conducted detailed searches of residences and businesses. Plunkett said the presence of the Iraqi citizens recognized the presence of their soldiers. "The 2-1 soldiers were a very positive aspect of the operation, based on their ability to interact with the locals," Plunkett said.

In other news from Iraq, terrorists fired upon Iraqi soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, patrolling in Abu Ghraib around 7:30 p.m. July 5.

The Iraqi unit fought back and detained 12 of the attackers. The soldiers positively identified one of the men as a known bomb manufacturer. All 12 suspected terrorists were taken into custody for questioning.

Earlier, at 4:30 p.m., an Iraqi army unit working in northern Baghdad caught another terror suspect. The suspect had served in a chemical weapons unit in the Iraqi army under Saddam Hussein's regime. When the Iraqi soldiers caught the man, they found compact discs with anti-Iraqi propaganda in his possession.

Later on July 5, an Iraqi citizen told U.S. Task Force Baghdad soldiers he'd seen three men digging holes in the area of a subsequent roadside bomb attack against coalition forces. The man offered to lead the patrol to the attackers' houses and identify the men.

Just before midnight, the soldiers searched two houses in the Risalah district of southern Baghdad and captured three men the Iraqi citizen identified as the men he had seen placing the bombs.

"What we've seen in today's activities is just one small example of how Iraqi security forces, with assistance from Iraqi citizens coming forward with tips, are working to defeat the efforts of terrorists who want to disrupt progress in this country," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Clifford Kent, Task Force Baghdad spokesman. "Iraqi soldiers and police are conducting these kind of missions every day."

Another Task Force Baghdad unit working in the Jihad district of southwestern Baghdad found a weapons cache containing 13 mortar rounds and numerous rifle barrels and stocks. An explosives ordnance disposal team was called to the site to safely remove the munitions.

Suspicious Car Near Treasury Prompts Security Caution (Wash, D.C. - 7/7/05)

The Associated Press Published: Jul 7, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) - A suspicious vehicle spotted outside the Treasury Department was deemed not a security threat, officials said Thursday, shortly after ordering people to move away from windows in one section of the main building. Norman Foote, the building's security specialist, said authorities announced an "all clear" allowing staffers and reporters to go back to their offices. Foote did not have further details.

During the investigation, the building was not evacuated. Roughly 15 minutes elapsed from the time people were told to move away from the windows to when the all-clear signal was given.

The department is next to the White House. The security precautions were taken several hours after a series of explosions rocked the British transit system in London.

It sounds like this is a wake up call once again for our country which has been asleep regarding these scumbags.

Mayor Bloomberg going through the list of all the assets NY has in place today.

I wish our DHS head was a little tougher rather than looking and sounding so wimpy!

It makes me SO MAD that people in our cities once again have to fear taking public transportation!!!!!! It's time to get tough with these guys and stop pussyfooting around and tap dancing with PC cr@p.

I don't think we have any TM'ers in Oklahoma that I know of.
