JERUSALEM - Syria test-fired three Scud missiles last week, including one that broke up over Turkey, said senior Israeli security officials.

The officials, citing intelligence data, said the missiles, using North Korean technology and designed to carry chemical warheads, were fired from northern Syria in the first such tests by Israel's arch-foe since 2001.

One of the missiles was fired southwest toward the Mediterranean, the Israeli officials said, and broke up over the Turkish province of Hatay, shedding debris over two villages.

The New York Times, which first reported Israel's allegations, quoted the Turkish ambassador to Washington, Osman Faruk Logoglu, as confirming that "during a (Syrian) military exercise, there was a technical mishap."

"The Syrian government was sorry about this," Logoglu said, adding that there were no casualties in the May 27 incident.

There was no immediate comment from Damascus.

According to Israeli officials, the missiles were a Scud B, with a range of about 200 km (120 miles), and two Scud Ds, with a range of about 700 km (420 miles).

They said Israel had long monitored Syria's missile program and saw nothing particularly surprising in the latest tests.

Has anyone heard Monsoor Izaz(sp) anywhere? He used to be on Fox News Chanel all the time giving reports on terrorist and their activity. It's been a loooong time since I can remember seeing him.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence and foreign allies have growing evidence that wanted terrorists have been residing in Iran despite repeated American warnings to Tehran not to harbor them.

The evidence, which stretches over several years, includes communications by a fugitive mastermind of the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing and the capture of a Saudi militant who appeared in a video in which Osama bin Laden confirmed he ordered the Sept. 11 attacks, according to U.S. and foreign officials.
