While many MSM'ers (sorry, most) are lionizing this guy as "a hero," someone who "did what he had to do," something big is being missed.
Our side has pointed out that he authorized/engineered illegal breakins himself...
And that he turned on the Whitehouse because he didn't get the top FBI job. Now think about that....
Felt became a snitch because he didn't get something he wanted! He was an opportunist, plain and simple (and it runs in the family, apparently, as they shamelessly say they urged the old man to do it so they could all get some money). Yeah, a real hero.
But here's what I haven't seen....
If they had made him the head of the FBI, he WOULD NOT have turned on the Whitehouse.
In fact, as head of the FBI....
HE WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM BURY WATERGATE!
Me, too! This place is a deep, deep pit of information with fabulous researchers!
I think you're basing that comment on what Nixon was portrayed as by the MSM, and not the facts of the scandal. I ask this simply because I have never read anything that would lead me to believe Nixon was involved in the planning of Watergate. I can't defend Nixon for his involvement in the cover up, but I also believe his advisers were compromised and their advise to him was influenced by people like W. Mark Felt
GREAT ideas.
Nixon was probably becoming a little paranoid at some of the events of the day. Or maybe a little more paranoid and suspicious than his usual. There may have been a mutual distrust between the FBI and the White House for some time. If there were any serious discussion about positions in the Bureau and it still failed to bear fruit for Felt, this could have just added to his desire to see Nixon go down if opportunity knocked.
Where did you get this all from? I assume you didn't type that out all yourself, in your own prose, but if you did, I salute you. Well done. Woodward by the way in his article, said he didn't know how Felt got access to the newspapers, but that the room numbers were written on each copy, and somehow Felt got to them before they were delivered to the complex.
"You're right."
Thank you. Among my favorite words.
I'm going to show my wife your first line and say, See, Honey, that's what I've been waiting 32 years to hear you say.
She'll look at them and say, You're wrong.
Thanks!
All this time Woodward and Bernstein have been portrayed as the very best at investigative journalism by the MSM, many awards and accolades, and the truth is.... they were nothing but "PAWNS" and they were played like a fiddle
LOL
Just two words are all you'll ever need:
"Yes Dear."
Not now, but I will. Kissinger was placed where he Nixon said exactly that kind of thing. Kissinger said that he does not recall being there, but even if he was, Nixon often just let off steam ordering ridiculous things, that he really didn't mean. How comforting. One such instance was get the documents on whatever his name was who was McGovern's campaign manager (whose name escapes me in this senior moment), about whom they suspected something. Just do it. Nixon was there at the creation it turned out.
Thanks a million
I need a flow chart for all this new info and the cast of characters. Is it me, or do these people all seem related one way or the other?
You mean, Yes Dear!
What is the reference to the part re Woodward's clearance?
Geez, this is starting to get really scary.
You are very welcome. I really like doing it.
OK Thanks, I'll be looking forward to them, because I have never seen any information that leads me to believe Nixon knew in advance, or was part of the planning of, the Watergate break in before hand
Please ping the list.
"Three days after graduating from Yale, Woodward was sent by the U.S. Navy to Norfolk, Virginia, where he was commissioned as an ensign by none other than U.S. Senator George Smathers from Florida. Bob's assignment was to a very special ship, called a "floating Pentagon," the U.S.S. Wright. The ship was a National Emergency Command Ship-a place where a President and cabinet could preside from in the event of a nuclear war. It had elaborate and sophisticated communications and data processing capabilities. It had a smaller replica of the war room at the Pentagon. It ran under what was called SIOP-Single Integrated Operation Plan. For example, in the event of nuclear war, the Wright was third in line to take full command if the two ahead of it, the Strategic Air Command in Omaha (SAC) and NORAD, were rendered incommunicado. Woodward-straightfacedly-told authors Colodny and Gettlin (Silent Coup) that he guessed he was picked for the ship because he had been a radio ham as a kid."
I live for this stuff, I have reams of info on the "Yellow Cake" story that Joe Wilson fabricated. It's addictive :-)
Who the hell is this guy?
