Another "Damon" was at Fenway Park yesterday......
Brockton man has perfect pitch...
Peter J. Damon, a lifelong city resident, used a prosthetic left arm to throw a perfect strike underhanded to Red Sox backup catcher Kelly Shoppach. Damon tipped his dark blue cap, which said "Most Valuable Patriot," to the crowd.
"I'm excited and very nervous," Damon said shortly before making the ceremonial first pitch and after he received a long ovation from the sellout crowd that packed Fenway Park. The Red Sox won the game, which made up for a previous rain-out, by a score of 6-4.
"This is just incredible to be on this field. I've never been on the field here," Damon said. "This is the first time and it's just incredible, awesome, there's really no way to describe it. I've always followed the Red Sox, and it's just great to be down here on the field."
Damon was a helicopter mechanic with the Army National Guard, serving with the 126th Aviation Battalion based at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod. He had enlisted in 2000 and was sent overseas a year later to serve in Kuwait and then Iraq.
He lost his arms in an accident in Balad, Iraq, 40 miles north of Baghdad, on Oct. 21, 2003. A tire on a Black Hawk helicopter he was working on exploded, killing the soldier he was working on the helicopter with, Spc. Paul Bueche of Alabama. The blast took Damon's right arm off at the elbow, his left arm above the wrist, but he survived....More here..
Damon was used in Michael Moore's propaganda film Fahrenheit 9-11. Later (Damon) learned of the fact and publicly objected. Damon was featured in one of the movies produced with the intent of disputing the lies of Michael Moore in his atrocity of a documentary.
