Much has been written about the need and desire of Felt's family to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with this, but we're also hearing about how he is living in a converted garage at his daughter's house, and that she has taken care of him for 20 years. Before designating her for sainthood. I 'd like to point out that he has been receiving a federal pension all this time, and he retired at the top of the federal pay system I know very little about the federal system, but assume there are many here who can estimate what his salary was at the time he retired, and what his pension is, even assuming that he elected a reduced benefit option to provide a survivor benefitfor his wife.
That's the reputation isn't it.
Another point: if she took care of him for 20 years, she probably didn't work, in which case she has no income to fall back on when he dies (with the exception of a percentage of the pension, if RobbyL is correct).
Now, people who are in debt and looking at loss of income have a reason to be desperate and try to get some money. It doesn't mean she didn't take care of him, nor does it make her a villain. However, it would provide a motive for her to coerce him into confessing, perhaps even to confessing to something he didn't do.
And you must admit she was quite jolly when talking to the press.
True enough most of this stuff can only be diagnosed with an autopsy, but Science News regularly reports on advances in this field.
Only way his daughter can get any portion of his pension after he dies is if she is otherwise disabled. So, is she a burned out druggie, or does she have a real disability?
There's no quibbling that they're doing it now for money. They've said it, it's not secret. But to make it a weird conspiracy is absurd. Why is it so hard to just take these events at face value. Why do you want it to be someone else? It makes sense.

Note that there's a direct connection between what this guy was telling the "posties", the failure of American will regarding Cambodia, and the Khmer Rouge Holocaust. He's got millions of deaths on his side of the ledger.
Should we have pity on this guy or take him to court?
NO. I answered this already. Unless he married his daughter (and who knows what they really do in California these days, eh) or she were totally disabled and dependent on him, she gets nothing.
No, he doesn't have to produce anything. Woodward could drop dead next week, or like others, become demented 7 years from now.
However, I find it interesting that it took the Post, Woodward, and Bernstein a couple of days to get their story straight.
I am not surprised. It's international news, and it probably blindsided them.
By the way, how did you wind up here? I notice you have only been here a few days. Speculation and trying out of ideas is what we do here. Sorry if you find it humorous, but sometimes we actually find things out.
Like a lot of others, I lurked for a long time, but didn't have much time to actually post. I've found myself with more time recently. And your right, lots of good things here. I didn't mean humorous as a dig to you, it's just I find some of the speculation sometimes humorous, and not just with this story.
I'll also point out that what I'm arguing about on this thread is the assertion that she's an abuser, which is what ken5050 was implying.
There are NO survivor benefits with a federal pension. There's a benefit for a spouse, or a former spouse with a court order, but you can't just tap into somebody's pension under either CSRS or FERS.

I have made no declaration here or anywhere else about Felt or his supposed caregivers. Take your "...Zero.Zip. But that isn't what she said; she said she wanted the money not to take care of her father, but to pay off college loans SHE is responsible for.
1. Did he make this confession of his own free will, or was he coerced into doing so?
2. Does he even know he has "confessed?"
3. Is the confession true?
I don't know how to make it plainer than that. Since we are dealing with someone who concealed the truth, how can we believe him now? And how can we believe Woodward, who makes stuff up left and right?
I just don't get why you think that this woman is a saint. It wasn't like she took him into her home when HE was penniless.
I am very sensitive to the problems of the elderly. My sisters and I cared for our parents for many years. We did not take their pension money for our support.
Knock that crap off; you're not suppose to drag that stuff from thread to thread.
SO WHAT? Who cares what they want the money for. It's not our business.
We are talking about MOTIVE and BELIEVABILITY.
So, maybe at first he didn't want to come forward. But he didn't think he'd live to be 91. Circumstances change. Maybe he sees his daughter struggling and he wants to help her and this is last chance of doing it. Why is that crazier than what this thread is suggesting?
