"...Stone's paranoia and his contempt for historic facts are most visible in the movie JFK..."
Well his movie SALVADOR is even worse. It is a drugged out freak fantasy completely detached from reality and history. It shows the "popular uprising" on horseback (yes on horseback!) being turned back by U.S. aid in the form of tanks and planes. In reality of course the FMLN had surface-to-air missiles, foreign mercenaries, and more RPGs and AK-47s than they could find Indians to use.
When the reporter played by James Wood crosses the border from Guatemala into El Salvador, he witnesses a burning corpse and a summary execution of a student-aged male for not having a copy of his cedula (internal document). This execution happened at the customs area! Later he visits a vast body dump that puts Auschwitz to shame. At least Joan Didion in her exceedingly lame and error-ridden book, SALVADOR admitted that there were no bodies at Puerta del Diablo "that day" (when she visited). Actually such "body dumps" had fewer bodies dumped than the Golden Gate Bridge but hey, we're making a movie here...

And lets not forget the nun rape scene. Distasteful Stone at it again.
