WHy would a 12 year old need calculus? I was taught to write a formal letter with the help from my parents. And we all know the song as to how a bill becomes a law! But does your child understand the different religions and why a Sikh carries a knife? Does you teenager feel comfortable enough with the opposite sex to dance at a dance Oh wait Homeschoolers don't get that opportunity

Are You not aware that there are home school associations?

Unless you are just Bull S====ing, then I would suggest that you do a little research, before you take on a subject that you are not qualified to talk about.

What a hoot! Occasionally you find folks here who apply precious little logic. You my friend are a classic example.

Hey Mikey,

Get with the program. Do your homework!

Homeschoolers all over the country held their Homeschool Prom's just last month.

They even took dates (gasp), and rented tuxedos or wore prom dresses.

And they danced the night away!

My kid will be a senior, but for the last two years has taken all his classes at the CC. He still is considered homeschooled by our school district, so he got to participate in the prom.

Homeschooled kids are all over the college campus where he attends, and they aren't social misfits, LOL.

Pardon me, sir, your ignorance is showing. What makes you think that homeschoolers don't attend dances? There are two homeschool groups within 30 minutes of us that hold 'Teen nights' once a month which include games, movies and dancing. One BIG difference is that since we adults are welcomed to hang around, we don't have to worry about kids getting drunk, puking and passing out on the floor as at some of the other school dances. And I know of what I speak because our older sons attended, and our youngest son now attends a private high school, and they've always had trouble with that. The public high school does too, from what I hear of the parents of my daughter's public schooled friends (yes, she DOES have those).

Another difference is that when the homeschooled kids get up to dance, they invite the parents to join them. I even got my 51 yr. old fat self up there and joined the kids in the "Boot Scoot Boogie", and to their delight, already knew it. We had a great time, but when they got back to their rap music (GASP, they know what that is!) I declined because I personally think that rap is crap.

Sounds like you need to meet more homeschoolers before you make sweeping generalizations.

yeah--the opportunity to feel like a "somebody" because the cute guy asked her to dance... and then the chance to feel like a nobody because he then dropped her for the cuter girl... such important opportunities for a 13-year old...

Wow. You are really out of touch. Most towns have dances for kids which are open to ALL Middle School and High School kids. Teen homeschoolers have teen groups and they do tons of stuff - even go to college during high school. My 10 year old knows who Sargon is, who William Tynsdale is, who Muhammad is, who William Wallace is....etc and etc. Do you? Does your kid? One day, my kid will be your boss :-)

After reading your posts on this thread, I've come to the conclusion that you assume much but know very little about home educated students/lifestyle.

I'm an area administrator for a private school *for* homeschoolers (private ISP if you will). Of 1,500 registered families, we have 350 Russian families, some who choose to be quite active in coop classes, field trips and other activities. The students speak perfect English while most of their parents choose their native tongue. I have a translator always at the ready.

This spring the high school students enjoyed a Spring Formal. Girls in formals, boys in dark suits. Music...not the bump and grind kind, thank you very much. On New Years Eve there will be a Masquerade Ball. The students begin preparing for this this month, gaining knowledge and practive on the custom of the Victorian Era complete with dances, style of dress, manners, music and more.

The homeschool choir in our greater area split due to the amount of students. Now one choir has 75, the next has 60 and still the next has 80. We also have available drama club, band (both wind and string), yearbook club and many coop classes for academics. Many high school students take 1 or 2 college classes per semester.

This season our junior high girls won 1st place in California's private school basketball tournie. Other sports choices include Track & Field, Wrestling, and Volleyball.

Socialized? You have your own opinion on that one.

Civilized? Yes. Far more than most of their peers in government school.

I'd suggest you do research on a subject before blindly posting your opinions. By *not* being fully educated on this subject you run the risk of appearing totally and completely ignorant.

Have a delightful day.
