Per Fox News...
bttt
Sound like a demotion to me.
CA can't spare him. CA needs every GOP congressman.
He will be replaced with another. Dems are rather thin on the ground in his district.
Cox wanted to get on the 9th Circuit. Boxer said no, and that was that. You remember that one?
GOOD to know that. Thanks.
Bush to Nominate Rep. Cox for SEC Chairman
GOP Officials: Bush to Nominate California Rep. Cox to Replace Resigning SEC Chairman Donaldson
By MARTIN CRUTSINGER

WASHINGTON Jun 2, 2005 President Bush intends to nominate California Rep. Christopher Cox to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, Republican officials said Wednesday following the resignation of William Donaldson.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying the White House wanted to make a public announcement. They said that announcement could come as early as Thursday.
Cox, 52, was first elected to the House from the GOP stronghold of Orange County in 1988. He served as chairman of the House Policy Committee from 1994-2005 and is chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Stupid waste of talent. Bush should make another attempt to appoint him to the 9th Circuit.
Still.. from being a leader in the House, possibly a future candidate for Speaker... to this? I don't get it... unless he's planning to get out of government in a couple of years and make mega-bucks... if so, SEC is the place to be...
Cox is my congressman. I met him a couple of times a law functions, including sitting at a table with him over lunch. I did not find him personally engaging, and his mindset is a bit robotic, but orderly. I remember at a fund raiser getting in a an arguement over AFDC welfare, and said his emphasis on itscost to the feds (which was small), was wrongheaded. It was not a green eye shade issue. What was wrong with it was the habits it engendered or enabled, and the damage it did to the human spirit, and that should be the GOP strategy and policy position in tradcuing it - the damage it did to the recipients and their kids. Cox didn't get it; he just didn't get it.
Cox wasn't going to be in the leadership. He does not have the interpersonal skills.
Chris Cox is one of the brightest, still relatively young GOP stars. His switch from Congress to the Executive Branch may portend a future cabinet position, or special asistant to the president. Perhaps he will return to the rough and tumble of politics upon an opening in the U.S. Senate.
But he is awfully easy on the eyes...lol.
Ditto that, onyx.
I think I would agree with you here. In fact, what you just said should be part of our platform.
{He will be replaced with another.}
Could that someone be Bob-1 Dornan. Back in 2001, when President Bush pondered nominating Chris Cox as a judge, Dornan considered moving into the CA-48 to run for Congress. If Bob-1 does make such a move, will Orange County conservatives grant Dornan a second chance at Congressional glory or give him the "Bob Barr" treatment?
Dornan is done. He comes across as being the south end of a horse too often. He isn't getting any younger anyway.
