Senior Chicken Prank Runs Afowl Of Law

BOULDER, Colo. -- The principal at a Boulder high school said that he has identified one suspect in a senior prank that involved live chickens and is looking for others involved in the fowl deed.

School officials found 39 chickens dressed in red vests and capes running in the halls of Fairview High School Tuesday morning. With the help of police and students, the birds were herded into the vice principal's office until the Humane Society of Boulder could take them to the shelter.

The head of the Humane Society told the Boulder Daily Camera that the incident shows that students need to be educated about taking care of animals.

"These pranks, while they might seem funny to students, are very stressful to the animals involved," said Lisa Pedersen.

The principal of Fairview said disciplinary action has been taken against one student who was keeping the chickens and others are being sought.

The Humane Society plans to conduct a full investigation and those involved could face misdemeanor charges of animal abandonment. Each of the 39 charges could net a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.

"The vast majority of students were concerned about the chickens and their welfare," said Don Stensrud, high school principal.

The night beforer our basketball game with rivals:

late at night, me and friends borrowed a sign, Desert Cremation Services and climbed on the roof of the Gymnasium; we hung the sign over the side facing the 'quad' where students gathered. We also hung a homemade sign which said, "Grand Opening"

The police were inclined to press charges for theft of the sign, but the owners declined.

It could have been a little hectic, for all concerned I'm sure, getting the birds into the outfits. Any one have any idea how you get 39 chickens into capes and vests?

You're added, Grammy.

Don't let speedy scare you. It's not so bad. Now, some of the puns are, but you get used to those after a while. Really, about the only thing that stinks about the ping list for me is that too often these folks beat me to a good pun, dangit.

Puns are not the cheepest form of humor. Some flocks have the half-baked idea that they are, but birds of an intelligent feather laugh 'til they are running around like a chicken without a head. Truss me, puns are eggcellent.

"These pranks, while they might seem funny to students, are very stressful to the animals involved"

Leave it to the saps to ruin a good prank by bloviating about animal rights.

"The vast majority of students were concerned about the chickens and their welfare," said Don Stensrud, high school principal."

Sure they were, principal.

Ghost Chickens in the Sky

Lyrics:

A chicken farmer went walking out one dark and fateful day
He rested by the coop as he went on along his way
When all at once a rotten egg hit him in the eye
It was the sight he dreaded
Ghost chickens in the sky!

Bok bok bok BOK
Bok bok BOK
The ghost chickens in the sky

The farmer had raised chickens since he was 24
A-working for the Colonel for thirty years or more
Killing all those chickens and sending them to fry
Now they want revenge...
Ghost chickens in the sky.

Bok...

Their feet were black and shiny, their eyes were burning red
They had no meat or feathers, these chickens all were dead
They carried off the farmer and he died by the claw
They cooked him extra crispy
And ate him with cole slaw

Bok...

But it's OK to starve and dehydrate to death a human animal? What a screwed up world we live in????

*snort* bwhhahaaa... We had a Russian teacher in high school who was nearly 7'2" tall, skinny as Abe Lincoln, with feet that had to be 18" long. He was pacing the class and lecturing out of a book one day and stepped in a trash can. Couldn't get his foot out. Broke two of his toes. We called him Twinkle Toes Thompson.
