U.S. Border Patrol agents say they are the victims of escalating violence.
The problem is getting so bad, the Border Patrol says numbers of assaults against them are up almost 50% from where they were last year.
Agents in the Tucson sector are patrolling a total of 261 miles of border, but some are doing it from the confines of a cage.
The vehicles are called 'war wagons', literally designed to protect against rocks and boulders thrown by illegal smugglers.
But the metal caging won't protect agents from a problem that's gaining even more momentum.
"When our agents try to do a vehicle stop, criminal element try to run over our agent to evade arrest," says agent Jose Garza, from the Tucson sector.
So far this fiscal year, the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol has reported 163 acts of assault against agents, compared to a total of 118 for the entire fiscal year of 2004.
National reports say vehicle rammings are up 188%, shootings are up 122% and cases of rock throwing are up 23%.
Garza says, "They're getting frustrated because we're out there. We're encountering them more times."
Agent Garza says he knows, with more manpower and resources, will come more encounters with criminal activity.
There are no reports at this time of deaths or serious injuries to agents. Garza says those on patrol are constantly being trained about the dangers along the international line.

Its all cheap labor and no taxes until someone gets hurt. Who do you think foots the bill when on eof these people gets hurt?
The employer doesn't pay worker's comp on these people.

Additionally, if millions of Nigerians and Africans were to want to "come here for a better life" and live on your block would you sing the same tune?
HELL yes! This is America, and I believe that anyone who wants to come, has no criminal activity, and has a job waiting should be allowed in. They could not afford to live on the block I live on right now, but they could live in most of the neighborhoods I have lived in the past.
Yeah, many of these people are nice and intend no harm, but that is not the basis to make a national policy when there are people intent on killing us.
Latinos are planning on killing us?

You are partially correct, some posters are what you described. However, any 'amnesty' or guest worker program will just increase the flood. All of the Third World is a corrupted cesspool which drives people to a better life.
I just don't want to give up my country for them to have one. This nation has been described as mankind's last best hope. If we are weakened by the mentality of of the sending nations, the diseases they bring along with an alien culture, it's game over.

Dear President Bush,
Perhaps a search party would help....to find your testicles....since you seem to have mis-placed them.
AMERICANS (ya know...the ones you swore to protect) are being hurt...and killed by ILLEGAL (I'll send you my copy of the dictionary in case you have forgotten the meaning of that one single word) people crossing over from Mexico....some of whom are being reported as Islamic Terrorists...(ya know...the ones we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq).
I don't want to be this blunt.....but nothing else seems to work.
Protect America....it's your JOB.

That statement is so stupid it makes my head hurt.
In fact, illegals usually work with tax id numbers or socials that are false. The employer pays them just like anyone else, witholding benefits, and he is also responsible for workers comp claims. Your statement that he "doesn't pay workers comp" just shows you have no idea how workers' comp works.
To: chronic_loser
I did not say that, although an illegal alien brutally killed a woman (wife and mother) near where I live and then taunted the husband about.
The point is that by making a policy based on the good will of many latino we are also letting in arabs and muslims who can easily use the same rationale. We would not want to racially profile would we?????
Then, after we get bombed the S$%^^& out of again, we will go through the whole "Why did this happen? and Why do they hate us?" garbage.

IF violating the border is ok....(just in search of a better life)...
...then I guess robbing a bank..(sorry officer...I'm just in search of more money...so that I can have a better life) would be ok with you.
I have NO problem with immigration. None....since my ancestors came here as immigrants.
But they used the 'front-door'....and didn't sneak in the back.

No, it shows how uniformed you are. Many many of these people will only work for cash and only give the fake ID to cover the butt of the employer.
There are many industries where this going on.

That's the F%^&^ing point! These people do not want to come here legally and play by the rules. They have contempt for the rules and the ones who do it legally are being spat upon.

I am actually for clamping down our borders. If we do not enforce our borders, why have them in the first place?
I am just saying that the fact that people object to the amnesty proposals in concert with controlling the border and reworking the immigration visa requirements is proof that the border is not the root issue with alot of these people.
To: chronic_loser
The issue is that we need to do an undertaking of what is really going on, not just make people feel good and wipe the slate clean with some hair brained amensty program.
You keep saying about a criminal record. How do you check when these people go under many aliases, have no documents with them, and don't want to be here legally in the first place when they get everything anyway? What is the deterrent? There is none.

Interesting perspective, since I wrote about 4 million dollars in workers' comp insurance in 8 states last year.
Many many of these people will only work for cash and only give the fake ID to cover the butt of the employer.
And they are still eligible to collect workers comp if they are injured. Want me to cite your state's workder comp statute for you?

I agree. But any talk of 'amnesty' simply increases the flood. I've been to Mexico and readily admit, I'd run, jump, swim, crawl or find someway to get myself across the border, had I been born there. I suspect Mexico is in for a revolution some time soon.

Hospitals can't turn away emergency room people as per federal law. That is why many of these people use the emergency as primary care. Why you do think these places are closing? We just had a huge hospital in Port Chester close because of all of the illegals who refused to pay the bills.
Actually, they CAN and DO turn away people. You are correct in stating that they cannot turn away life threatening admissions. However, they are free to turn away any situation not considered life threatening. There was a thread on FR not long ago about some hospital in MS (Hattiesburg, Yazoo City???) that made the policy official that anyone not life threatening would be denied admission to the ER. Duke Hospital here in NC has the same policy, as does Wake Forest Hospital.
