"The shooting unfolded as the officers were sitting in separate patrol cars with their dogs going over training material. The K-9 training facility is in a quiet neighborhood, Dobbins said. Police gave the following account of the shooting:
As the officers worked, they noticed a car slowly rolling toward them. The 1995 Honda Civic, with three people inside, had its lights off.
The car stopped about 75 yards away from the officers. A man jumped out, fired at least eight shots from an assault rifle and got back in before the car drove away.
The officers, who were armed, ducked down as their cars were sprayed with bullets."

"The three suspects attempted to run toward a home where gang members were having a backyard barbecue. But officers caught the woman before she could get away." The article identifies a woman, Bla Koua Lee, 23, as being arrested and being held for two counts of ADW on a police officer, unlawful possession of an assault rifle and resisting arrest. A 20-year-old male, Hue Xiong, was later and booked on the same charges. Police are looking for a third suspect, Cha Lue Vang, 18, "a known gang member."

Was it really an assault rifle (with both semi-automatic and fully automatic firing capability) or did that just sound "cooler" for the article...

The article states the car was chased to a residential neighborhood near Dayton/Woodrow streets. The suspects got out and one of them slid the "assault rifle" underneath the car. Later the police found a partially loaded 30-round magazine in the car.

"names sound more chinese." The Chinese in the Central Valley, like the Japanese, are low key, law abiding, and supportive of law enforcement.
The Central Valley, specifically Fresno, has been a gathering point for South East Asians. Trust me on this, these are NOT Chinese names.

An "ASSAULT" rifle is any rifle used to assault people. I also have an assault baseball bat, an assault stick, an assault tire iron, and an assault wife. (None are registered)

You sure, names sound more chinese. The names are Hmong. Hmong names are very familiar to us here in Central California.
For the most part the 2nd generation seems to be acclimating here, yet there is an undeniable gang problem amongst them as well.
"The Hmong in the U.S. came mainly from Laos as refugees after the Vietnam War. They once lived idyllic agrarian lives in the hills of northern Laos, but that changed once many of them were recruited by the CIA to fight for us in the once-secret wars in Laos. They fought bravely and suffered many causalities, but once we pulled out from Vietnam and left them in the lurch, the North Vietnamese and their puppet government in Laos marked the Hmong for genocidal extinction. Many of the Hmong fled from invaders , losing many lives as they traveled through the jungle and swam the Mekong river to Thailand. "...excerpted from Hmong People in the U.S.

Lets see:
K-9 Training facility, assault rifle, backyard barbecue, Asian gang members, I ain't no Inspector Cleusea (sp) but it looks like they were making a grocery run and the cops just happened to be there. /sarcasm off
This story must be false. Everyone knows that in California, these evil guns are not permitted.

Are these people from the Hmong community?
From what I have heard and read, the Asian gangs are some of Fresno's worse.
Good morning, Enterprise!

G'Mornin Amy. You got me there about which community they are from. But your are correct, in that some of the Asian gangs are some of the most violent.

Thanks, BTW I have always said if the terrorist truly wanted to instill terror all it would take is ten Malvos in ten major cities targeting LE, fd, and medical personel. After two weeks these agencies would not venture forth into the populace and it would not take long for the riots and race wars to begin with martial law following. If not mistaken this was old charlie mansons plan.

California is a hellhole and Fresno is a blighted cesspool. Until the government gets serious and starts smashing these lawless street gangs, these incidents will go on and on.

But hang on a second here, I thought they banned "assault weapons" three or four years ago? *sigh*
