Only in show business and sports can an idiot make millions and become expert on everything.

Well said!

I am a huge Bright Eyes fan, in fact a fan of Conor Oberst in general. I do not appreciate anyone saying that this man does not have talent, because you have obviously only heard this song. If you will take a look at this website
http://thestoryinthesoil.com/albums.html
you will see that Conor has worked on many albums, many record labels, and in many different bands. Before you go criticizing his music you should hear more than one song, for he is actually an amazing guitarist. And though his voice is not the best, it adds a feel of pure emotion to his music, almost as if he is about to begin crying during his songs. It adds a gritty, unedited feel that many bands can never obtain because they sound horrible live. With Conor, what you hear on CD is what you get. His lyrics are also very poetic and heartfelt. If you do not like his music you are entitled to that opinion, but please do not say he has no talent. I don't criticize your music, you shouldn't criticize mine. Conor Oberst had the guts to stand up on national television and sing this song. I applaud him for that. I vote republican myself, because I believe that John Kerry was not a good choice to run this country. But Bush must admit that he made a mistake in the Irag war. Too many lives have been lost, too much money spent. He is not a bad man, but he should be able to confess his failures, for everyone has them. Don't attackConor on a personal basis because he has stood up and defended his point of view. I admit that the song is profane in some parts, but sometimes it takes profanity to indicate anger or force a point across into someones mind. I'm sure you have all used it at one point or another as well.

The main point of this reply was to put a stop to anyone criticizing Conor like this just because of one songs. Hear some of his other stuff, then tell me he has no talent. And if you still hold by your opinion, the nI wonder what you consider talent to be exactly?

Thank you, and please do not be angry that I feel this way about President Bush. It is my personal opinon which I am entitled to. Many others share the same opinion, some of whome are war veterans.

What he is saying is so despicable I can't appreciate his "talent." I wonder if he's doing this for the notoriety it will bring him, like Kanye West did at the Oscars.

I appreciate your vote for GWB and agree with you that Kerry was not a good candidate for the office of US President.

I don't agree with you, however, about the Iraq war and I would ask you when in human history a military effort has been more successful?

Yes, it is tragic that more than 2,000 soldiers died and many others wounded to free people from an oppressive tyrant who used chemical weapons against his neighbors and even his own people. However, for some perspective consider that in this country 40,000 people die tragically each year for no good reason from traffic accidents. I appreciate what the military is doing to advance the possibility of freedom for the Iraqi people and working to prevent further attacks in this country. Let's pray for our troops to accomplish their mission and to return home healthy and safe.

I agree. I have been praying for our troops to return safe, sound, and as soon as possible.

Honestly, this is the only one of Conor's songs that is downright rude. I'd encourage you to try to listen to some other songs of his. He is actually a poetic genius. And many of his songs you will catch yourself tapping your toe to. I'd recommend you listen to "First Day of My Life", "A Song To Pass The Time", and "Arc of Time". Three very good and very unpolitical songs. They are all very different from each other, because Conor is not afraid to try different styles on his differnet albums.

And you do have a point about the car accident thing. I just think it is sad that we couldn't have avoided so much loss of life in this effort. But the decision has been made now, so let's just hope it's over soon.

I hear this vague sentiment quite a bit from my liberal friends. They are, however, unable to explain just precisely WHAT the "mistake" was. Please explain your rational reasons WHY Iraq is a mitake.

I could not care less about this dude you are touting and defending.

I care about my President and my country and my troops in harm's way. I care about that we are at war for our survival against islamofascism.

I detest the haters of George W Bush and this song oozes that hatred of a good man (as you so in contradiction called him) in a time when this garbage is being used by our terrorist enemies and by the Democrats and Hollywood and the News Media to try to bring down this President and force is to cut and run from Iraq in the face of terrorists who blow people up and chop off their heads.

Those are my priorities, and your little friend can go jump off a bridge (figuratively speaking) for all I care.

I don't appreciate the hate that I can see oozing from your post. I didn't yell at you, you shouldn't be yelling at me.

If you would actually read my post, I voted for President Bush as well, and I hold by my decision. As I said, it was my personal opinion, and you do not have to share it, that he made a mistake, in sending us in so fast. i think we should have been a little more cautious. I did not say I hate President Bush, in fact other than the Iraq situation, I think he is doing a fine job of running our country. I do not agree with Conor on this issue, and I do believe that this song was out of line. The only thing I said was please do not judge Conor's talent on one song.

Now please do not tell me to go jump off a bridge. I had a friend who died in the 9/11 attack, I felt the pain just as much as you did.

Thank you.

The trolls are out of school today, LOL.

Can you imagine if the song had been about OBL, Saddam, and Allah?

Saddam's defense team, ie US trolls, are going to get more numerous here.

I can't really understand your post... is it supposed to be about me? It isn't very clear...

Well in the event that it is about me, then I believe you are calling me a troll, and saying that I defend Saddam. Ok where to start... let's see. I hated Saddam for ever after 9/11. A very good friend of my family worked in that building and was killed in the bombing. I was very glad, even though I did not support the war, to hear that Saddam had been captured. I would even say that he deserves the death penalty for what he has done. It was horrible. When I say that I don't support the war, it means that I didn't agree with the President while he was making the decision. Now that it has been made, I believe that we should follow through. I support our troops, and pray daily for their safe arrival home soon.

If your post was not about me, then I am terribly sorry, but I felt like I should explain myself.

I support Conor Oberst. Singing an anti-war song is a far cry from killing millions, so anyone who wants to try to say I support Saddam because I support Conor... that's a little far-fetched.

Ridiculous lyrics aside, this "Bright Eyes" is a talenteless hack with possibly the worst (and most annoying) voice I've ever heard.

Themes touched on in the song (for those who didn't listen to it): George Bush denies women their rights, presides over GOP vote fraud, introduces cocaine into black neighborhoods to keep the brothas down, and is trying his dardnest to convert the entire Muslim world to Christianity.

Did you read my post?

Have you heard ANY of his other songs?

Yes, he has a bad voice. It adds emotion to his other work. This song is his only one that even I, a huge fan of his, deem rude. Don't keep telling me that he has no talent if you have not heard any of his other music.

Please people, for God's sake stop attacking Conor on a personal basis because he sang one song the offended you all. I'm sure if you thought about it you would see much more offensive material on Television during the course of a day. Conor did go a little far with the lyrics of this song, but he is standing up for his opinion. Nothing stops you from going to sing an anti-Democratic song, and if you had talent and were good, I would listen to it and enjoy it as well. Although I might not agree with the message of that song either, I would not tell you that you had no talent and call you a "hack".

You may not agree with his message, but Conor is talented. Do not say he is not until you hear some of his other music. And as for him having a bad voice, agreed. He doesn't have the greatest voice. But that's what adds so much emotion to his other songs. A lot of bands loose that emotion by over-editing their work until it is bland and dry.

Pretty thin skin there, eh newbie? You a relation to this talentless hack or just some starry-eyed fan?

Although I might not agree with the message of that song either....Conor did go a little far with the lyrics

"Might not?" A little far? You're on the wrong website.

No not really. You're just too ignorant to see the difference between your personal bias against this man and actually having no talent.

Now you, on the other hand, actually have no talent. Besides writing stupid posts. Maybe you should try being pleasent for a change. Which I decided not to do in this post, because out of everyone yelling at me for defending Conor, you're the most arrogant, ignorant, cowardly one of them all, with your name-calling.

And if you hadn't figured out that I'm on the wrong website until just now... good job.

....with your name-calling.

Poor little guy.... What hurt you the most, my calling you "thin-skinned" "starry-eyed"? ....or perhaps it was the (accurate) description of the musicial/lyrical abilities of your boyfriend "Conor?"

So let's get down to the nitty-gritty political stuff here, since this is a political discussion forum. To reiterate (from my post #51), do you agree with Conor's take that President Bush denies women their rights, presides over GOP vote fraud, introduces cocaine into black neighborhoods, and is attempting convert the entire Muslim world to Christianity?

although your heart is in the right place not supporting the war. People like you are the reason this country is going to hell in a hand basket. Saddam Had nothing at all to do with 9/11 not a goddamn thing You do realize that don't you? America needs to stop trying to “fix” the world We had nothing to do with Saddam nothing. So we invaded another country that had nothing to do with who we were all looking for in the first place, and as for the death penalty I so don't understand you people you know who supports the death penalty Christan's do you people ever read your bible it is a sin to kill another man and it is a sin to judge other people so how does that make sense exactly it doesn't thats how the Christan's preach nothing but love acceptance and tolerance but most of them practice none of those things and as for Conor Oberst and his band bright eyes I think all hes questions in the song When The President Speaks to God are all very valid questions.
