A Late Decision, a Lasting Anguish (Late Abortion)
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 31, 2005 | Strephanie Simon

COLUMN ONE A Late Decision, a Lasting Anguish # A Kansas doctor is under investigation for performing abortions others won't. His clients say outsiders can't grasp their pain or gratitude.

By Stephanie Simon, Times Staff Writer

WICHITA, Kan. — The moment is burned forever in her mind: The small exam room, her husband's ashen face, her sobs as the doctor guided a needle into her womb to kill her son.

It's been 4 1/2 years, and still Marie Becker can feel Daniel kicking inside her, kicking and kicking as she choked back hysteria — kicking until the drug stopped his heart and she felt only stillness.

She prayed Daniel would forgive her.

Tiller's clinic aborted 295 viable fetuses last year and 318 the year before; his website says that he has performed more late-term abortions than anyone else practicing in the Western Hemisphere.

But the clinic is now under criminal investigation for some of those procedures.

"This was something we did out of love and respect for him."

I think their brains were removed during the operation.

"Performing abortions others won't"? Is he an illegal alien as well?

If they felt that way before the abortion, why did they continue? Didn't she have a choice?

Good ol' Doc Killer-Tiller was THE major contributor to out beloved (by the media) RAT governor, kathleen sebelius. She repaid him by recently vetoing a bill mandating health standards for abortion clinics. THAT'S what's the matter with Kansas.

Late term abortions, homo sex, racial hatred of whites, destroying the family, etc.... Liberal/democrat and RINO values.

Thanks for posting.

It might be anecdotal experience but I don't see as many Down Syndrome kids these days. In England, they are even aborting cleft palate babies.

No matter what the U.S. "justice" system decides, this doctor is subject to a higher judge.

"One patient who had an abortion at 25 weeks in November said she could not bear to imagine surgeons cutting open her daughter's tiny chest to rebuild her heart."

Far better to kill her than to fix her.

I read the whole thing (www.bugmenot.com for passwords). These people are beyond vile.

leninism -- destroying the bourgeois society to be replaced by the pure workers paradise of communism. I'm saying it a lot these days, but that's because I think people need to wake up and realize the situation is even worse than it seems. Liberalism still sounds kind of insane and misguided. In fact it seeks the destruction of everything we hold dear. And it seeks us in death camps, or with bullets in our heads.

I feel so sorry for these poor "mothers".

/sarcasm

Ladies, if you're going to get an abortion, do the world a favor and get yourself killed, not just the baby. Show some real sacrifice. I'll at least respect you a little bit.

Not wanting to register to read the rest of the article...

....one can only guess why these parents did this????

...other than the usual...

..wanting to accept responsibility for a child they were about to have.

Horribly sad that in our nation, one can always find an evil entity willing to do the dirty work...

..and George Tiller has been the go to man for late term abortion, many many years.

Indeed and the big question is what kind of power will be given to the aborted in the day of judgement over their killers.

If you believe in God, and His purpose for all our lives, how can you abort a baby simply because YOU think he or she would be better off dead?

Our society is dying of relativism, one child (or fetus) at a time.....

Some of the deformities are lethal. Others are not. A few fall in a gray area: The physical problems might be reparable through surgery, but the operations are risky and grueling. One patient who had an abortion at 25 weeks in November said she could not bear to imagine surgeons cutting open her daughter's tiny chest to rebuild her heart. The thought of her Emma spending months of her childhood in the hospital overwhelmed the woman, a 30-year-old technology educator from Virginia who asked to be identified by her middle name, Paige.

"Part of me just wanted to let her die," Paige said. "Is that horrible?"

Yes. Yes, it is. You are a horrible person, Paige.

FWIW, my wife had to have reconstructive heart surgery at 10 months of age, and has had 3 more open heart surgeries since then. Thankfully, my in-laws aren't selfish, bloodthirsty murderers.

Let's pretend this is a Spiritual Diagnostic Blog and we're considering a case where the sickness is baffling and the need for a cure is urgent.

I have been told by so many women that they aborted their baby "for its own good."

These women baffle me. What I notice is that they feel they have unselfishly sacrificed THEIR maternal feelings, they have taken the suffering upon THEMSELVES, in order to mercifully spare their child, and maybe the rest of their family..

In other words, they might experience grief, nightmares, haunting, long-term anguish, even severe physical after-effects from the abortion, but they say this is the price they are nobly willing to pay, to spare their loved ones the burden of a disabled child in the family, and to spare the innocent young one the burden of being born to suffer.

I know this is wrong. You know this is wrong. But what do we say or do that will convince these women that the better course is to let the baby live, and let it experience love for as long as its short life will permit?

If the baby is dying, it will die. But people do give birth to severly handicapped babies, and they hold them, and feed them, and love them, knowing that there's a big difference between natural death and deliberate murder; and knowing that to give and to receive love is the meaning of life.

How do we convince people that we owe our own children "ordinary care," a decent welcome into life --- warmth --- milk --- not the needle and the knife?

Plazio had studied special education in college; working with adults with Down syndrome, she had seen their lives as lonely, frustrating, full of hurt.

My daughter has done volunteer work with families that have Down Syndrome children. She said they are the most joyful and loving people she has ever known. They are blessed with a gift of love.
