I like the idea of a non-mustached Hal Holbrook as DT. (at least that's how I always pictured him in my minds eye)

Dominique de Villepin,

"French foreign minister, emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of President Bush's pursuit of war in Iraq. He earned rare applause at a UN Security Council meeting in February, when he urged council members to give weapons inspectors and diplomacy more time. “No one can say today that the path of war would be shorter than the path of inspections. No one can claim either that it might lead to a safer, more just, and more stable world,” he said. He infuriated many in the Bush administration, who considered his protestations inflexible and arrogant."

More reason to boycott any thing made in France or by a French owned Company.

Corruption is totally unacceptable, regardless of if it is 'our party'.

Hear, hear! I fear we are in the minority here with that view, though.

it was Nixon's reaction to it.

Exactly. If Nixon had done a Mea Culpa and had condemned the break-in as an over-zealous mistake right from the beginning, most people would have forgiven and forgotten. But beyond that, keeping the tapes and having a secretary do the erasing was really stupid. Bad advisors, paranoia, and arrogance brought Nixon down. IMHO

Well, I think many of the comments are inane. I just don't see much "demonizing". Dismissive and critical I do see. Baselessly, for the most part.

Of course, some have become wedded to their pet theories over the years and are reluctant to consider new information so have this unfortuante kneejerk lashing out.

;)

In a 1977 radio interview with George Putnam, Victor Lasky, an investigative journalist and author of It Didn't Start With Watergate, JFK: The Man and the Myth, RFK: The Myth and the Man,, among others, declared that there was no Deep Throat.

For one thing, Deep Throat supposedly met Woodward and Bernstein in a parking structure in Washington, DC at 2 o'clock in the morning. Lasky commented that anyone showing up in a parking structure in DC in the wee hours of the morning would be mugged. He also questioned why Deep Throat didn't already come forward, to be rewarded with celebrity status by the media, not to mention the millions of dollars in book deals, movie contracts, and television interviews.

Baloney. The crooks in the Nixon administration did that, not the whistleblower. Corruption is totally unacceptable, regardless of if it is 'our party'.

True

However, IMO Felt should receive the Chuck Colson treatment.

IIRC Colson served time from being a self-described "whisleblower".
Something about leaking FBI files ....

btw: anyone hear Liddy's take on all this?

They should have been pardoned. Wiretapping the Weatherman was an act of patriotism, yet I can see how during the Carter years and after the Chruch hearing that good FBI men would be arrested.

I have never followed the story too closely, but wasn't Deep Throat supposed to be part of the executive branch? That is one detail I seem to recall, but I could be wrong.

My money is still on Rehnquist.

Can't see it. Rehnquist was already out of the Justice Department and on the Supreme Court several months before the Watergate break-in occurred. It's hard to imagine how he would have been in-the-know about a lot of the stuff Deep Throat supposedly revealed.
