Vice President Dick Cheney, when asked about Amnesty International's recent condemnation of the U.S. prison camp at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, said: "I don't take them seriously."
Mr. Cheney, in a taped interview that aired last night on CNN's "Larry King Live," said: "Frankly, I was offended by it. I think the fact of the matter is, the United States has done more to advance the cause of freedom, has liberated more people from tyranny over the course of the 20th century and up to the present day than any other nation in the history of the world.
"Think about what we did in World War I, World War II, through the Cold War. Just in this administration, we've liberated 50 million people from the Taliban in Afghanistan and from Saddam Hussein in Iraq, two terribly oppressive regimes that slaughtered hundreds of thousands of their own people.
For Amnesty International to suggest that somehow the United States is a violator of human rights, I frankly just don't take them seriously." He said the prison at Guantanamo Bay has been operated "in a very sane and sound fashion by the U.S. military," and that "when you're at war, you keep prisoners of war until the war is over with. I think these people have been well-treated, treated humanely and decently."

Dead on. This needs to be said much more often. If Amnesia International wants to find a gulag in CUba, all it has to do is go across the Gitmo fence.

I have been wondering why they have not used that line, "Just look across the razor wire and you will see a true gulag."

I'm not sure. It would make Amnesia International look like the band of dope smoking idiots they truly have become.

Cheney is big time. He's the adult in Washington, DC. He doesn't listen to the PC crap. He's been there and done most of it.

Change his oil, rotate his tires and Cheney's good for another 100,000 miles.

I have a picture in my (so called) mind of the VP saying this using a very lowkey tone of voice...and a slight smirk on his face.

Is Larry King really alive? Or does he just look like death?

There was supposedly a press conference that the Soviets propped up Yuri Andropov's dead body for. They didn't want to admit he was dead, because they hadn't settled the succession quite yet. Maybe that's why CNN is still keeping Larry King around. They just spray him with Fly-B-Gon and pin the mic to his lapel.

Cheney maybe great and satisfy our desire to stick it to the MSM, but in terms of the war on terror Gitmo is hurting us more than helping us.
Regardless of whether the accussations are true or false people, especially in the Arab world, beleive them.
The base is hurting the US cause, it is creating terrorists and it is a soar spot for America.
I agree with Thomas Friedman - just shut it down.

Cheney 08? (IMO) He could have it if he wants it.

I disagree with Thomas Friedman. Where would you recommend we put these people? Ft. Chaffee, Ark?

I don't see it that way at all. Cheney addressed Amnesia International in precisely the tone they deserved. He told the bratty little kids to get out of his back yard.
