What a week to miss though.....argggggggghhhhhhh.

I'm finally going to read the thread to see what I missed during the press conference but had to let you know, be glad you missed it. Too much emotional hype over basically slow-moving politics as usual with our side emerging ahead.

Again...thanks. Am passing all of this info along to my SC family and friends for their consideration. Looks like SC has several good positilities to run against McLame's Graham-cracker. Still believe that Graham was just shocked at the backlash over his actions and if he wants to keep his Senate seat, perhaps he'll come around...rather doubt it as McLame is just leading him around like a puppy dog.

In most cases they get paid the same an American would get only its cheaper because its under the table. Cheaters prosper.

Do you think union wage workers cost an employer and the customer the same as non-union wage workers ?

What does that have to do with anything?

Undocumented (ie., illegal) workers are less likely to belong to a labour union and less likely to command the same salary from an employer as a citizen (assuming they have equal talent and an equal work ethic). For a homeowner hiring a private contractor for landscaping, maid service, handyman services, etc. the quality of the work for the price (plus having someone who actually wants to work) are important.

You obviously dont work around the trades. Illegals (Not undocumented) are in most cases (unless they are suckers) getting paid equal to their American counterparts of equal experience. They get paid cash under the table so the employers dont have to pay workmans comp, fica, etc. Thats where the employers save money. "plus having someone who actually wants to work" Ah I see youve picked up the open borders crowds latest talking point: Mexicans are better workers than Americans.

Thanks for the ping! I was away from the TV running a few errands in town. Maybe catch it on CSPAN tonight or online.

No, I don't work in the trades.

I think your assertion is selective and so not generally correct. I don't think equal experience is sufficient criteria. I think equal productivity is the correct measure.

"plus having someone who actually wants to work" Ah I see youve picked up the open borders crowds latest talking point: Mexicans are better workers than Americans.

I would want to hire someone who actually wants to work, rather than someone who does not; someone with a chip on their shoulder who wants to blame someone else for their poor prospects in a land of opportunity and job creation. Some Mexicans could be better workers than some Americans. Americans on the whole are better educated and more productive than Mexicans.

"No, I don't work in the trades."

Ok so your posts are done with admitted ignorance. Im a faux finish and mural painter and for the last two years Ive worked around almost exclusively new construction. Lots of illegals. I have first hand experience.

I recall that entry to construction trade work often involved extended family finding work for their young men, and this was especially true for the unions. In any event please educate me about the trades from your perspective. How much does the trade of faux finish and mural painter pay and what are the qualifications ?Is it hourly or piece work ? What percentage of illegal/undocumented workers earn what percentage of the salary you do ?

As I am ignorant of the building trades, you seem to be ignorant with syntax and semantics in what I assume to be your native tongue because you erroneously translated that what I had written in plain English.

I do find that credentialed plumbers, electricians, and handymen want somewhere in the vicinity of $70 - $120 per hour to work on repairs, assuming you can get them to show up.

I dont know the average income. I made just under 80,000 last year. Not bad for 26. Qualifications? You have to be good or you dont get work.
Is it hourly or piece work ?
Both.
What percentage of illegal workers earn what percentage of the salary you do ?"
That is SOME sentence. Ive never come across any illegals that do what I do. I suppose there might be some but they arent as good as I am.

And we both know what you meant by that comment.

I think it is excellent. I hope you are investing a portion of it, and spending the remainder, wisely. You should be rightly proud of that achievement by the age of 26.

Qualifications? You have to be good or you dont get work.

No family connection, education or credentials are necessary. OJT is the norm, and just like baseball, anyone can do it if he is good enough.

Is it hourly or piece work ? Both.

You don't know. Perhaps it is a selective trade that they have not yet discovered.

And we both know what you meant by that comment.

No

You obviously don't know. I don't discriminate on who can build my house based on the color of his skin.

Have you served in the Armed Forces ?

I am for restricted borders that encourage tourism and legal immigration but discourage and deny illegal immigration.

I did not defend illegal immigration.

I don't even think children who are born in the United States should be entitled to automatic citizenship.

I'm not sure non-veterans should have the same level of citizenship as veterans.

If the demand for murals of Che Guevara skyrocketed I might be concerned.

I do, it means whatever 7 "centrist democrats" want it to mean.

Judicial Nominees Compromise Was Hard-Won

excerpt:

Added Nelson: "It's not a contract that's enforceable. It's a mutual agreement that is self-enforcing."

~snip~

I and others tried repeatedly to point out to you that the agreement is not some kind of contract. Now that Nelson, a dem, is on record as stating that flatly, I hope you will drop it.

The Republicans are not bound by the whims of the dems and what they deem "extraordinary" and many of the Republicans are on record saying the bar would be very high and is not going to apply to any other nominees in light of Owen's confirmation.
