Laura could take out Hillary: Cheney - (Go, Laura..GO!!)
THE AUSTRALIAN.NEWS.COM ^ | MAY 31, 2005 | Staff Writer

FIRST lady Laura Bush would defeat US senator Hillary Rodham Clinton if the two were to face each other in the 2008 presidential contest, Vice President Dick Cheney said overnight.

Mr Cheney made the prediction after his wife, Lynne Cheney, suggested the matchup in an interview on CNN's Larry King Live.

Mrs Cheney noted the rampant speculation that the former first lady, now a senator from New York, would make a bid in the next presidential contest.

President George W. Bush cannot seek a third term in office. His father, former President George Bush, was defeated after one term by former President Bill Clinton.

"You know, people are thinking of Mrs Clinton running for president. I think Mrs Bush ought to run for president," Mrs Cheney said.

"If we want to have a Bush dynasty, let's get Laura Bush."

The vice president, who again ruled out making his own run for president when Mr Bush's term ends, agreed.

"It's a great idea," Dick Cheney said. "And I think I know who would win too."

Are we becoming a country in which the only people who have a realistic chance of being elected to high office are people who are already well-known to millions of people because of their celebrity status, or else who have family or political connections to those already in high office? It seems to be a disturbing trend.

This was a neat piece of political jujitsu--ostensibly just praising Laura who is extraordinarily popular while by implication denigrating the very polarizing Hillary as just another wife of ..

This is a perfect example of the out of touch with reality view of many Republicans.

Is Laura Bush a relatively classy lady? Of Course.

Is Hillery a scheming, machevellian egocentric demagogue? Also true.

But Laura Bush is not a politican. My guess is she is also far more liberal than her husband.

Hillery would chew her up and spit her out.

YAHOOOO. Another Pro Abortion Republican. But hey as long as we keep winning, we can keep increasing our majority in the senate. Who knows, after 2006, McCain might have 14 GOPers on his side.

Never? Perhaps things seem worse now because we've just had two Bush presidents, we're seeing a possible Hillary run on Bill's coattails, and now there's talk of Jeb Bush and Laura Bush and the like. And of course there's Ah-nold, an actor, after Reagan, an actor. And Kelsey Grammar is talking about going into politics. The list could be extended, of course...

Me too. Because:

Apparently the Vice President's tongue in cheek humor and subtle criticism of Mrs. Clinton has been lost on both the press and a great many people on FR.

No one seriously thinks Mrs. Bush is going to run for school board head, let alone president.

By implication, Mrs. Bush is as well qualified as Mrs. Clinton (the point being that Mrs. Clinton is NOT qualified).

I imagine the Republican candidate will be George Allen, if things go as they currently are trending. President and Mrs. Bush will retire to their ranch in Crawford for a well-deserved rest, Jeb Bush is going to go into the private sector, and all of you dynasty-phobics can then rest easy.
