That is where our remembrance day comes from which is to remember those who have fallen. At the service at the Royal Albert Hall they drop Poppy leaves at the end each leaf depicts a service person killed on active duty, so unfortunately each year the total of the leaves increases.
We have a moment of silence at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th Month and though now referred to as Remembrance Day it was originally called armistice day.

That is beautiful (and so is today's thread).
Our Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sell orange and red (paper) lapel poppies to commemorate the service and sacrifices of our armed forces on Veterans' Day.
