BAGHDAD, Iraq — An Iraqi aircraft with four Americans and an Iraqi on board crashed Monday in eastern Diyala province (search) during an operational mission, the military said.
An "Iraqi aircraft" with "four U.S. personnel and one Iraqi on board" crashed sometime before noon, the military said in a statement.
The announcement did not say what type of aircraft was involved or whether the five people on board had died.

Wasn't meant to be funny, was meant as a serious comment. Russian transport airplanes are god-awful about staying in the air. Enemy action is not required to bring one down, they'll do it all by themselves. While tragic, a Russian airplane going down for no apparent reason is hardly unexpected, and most of the Iraqi planes (other than the big jet airliners) are Russian.
Sympathy for the passengers, crew and families from this quarter.

They didn't even say if they secured the men themselves yet. I assume its for security, or they just haven't gotten them yet, God forbid.

yeah but this does not sound good. I would think that if there were survivors, they would have released it. NOw that is just My opinion.

Multiple in-flight (sometimes simultaneous) catastrophic engine failures are the usual problem, and they happen with some regularity in the Russian Federation. It's not fuel or maintenance, either, it's poor design and manufacture. Even Aeroflot, the Russian state airline, is dumping their Ilyushins and Tupolevs as fast as they can afford to, because their Russian jets kill or scare away too many passengers.

Sources said the aircraft went down during a sandstorm near the town of Khanaqin shortly before noon (0800 GMT). It was not immediately clear if the aircraft was a helicopter or fixed-wing plane.
The U.S. military said forces in the area had secured the crash site. It did not say whether those on board had survived.
"They are at the site now trying to ascertain what the situation is," a spokeswoman for the U.S. military in Baghdad said.
"We don't yet know what caused the aircraft to go down. It's all under investigation."
More than a dozen U.S. helicopters have been brought down in Iraq over the past two years, either by insurgent ground fire, bad weather or malfunctions.
Last week, an OH-58 surveillance helicopter was shot down by small arms fire near the town of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, killing both people on board.

Iraqi air force helicopter crashes killing five
Baghdad, May 30, SPA -- An Iraqi air force helicopter crashed Monday killing four U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi on board, dpa reported.
The helicopter came down in the province of Diyala, northeast of Baghdad, dpa reported.
There were no immediate details from the U.S. military on the possible cause of the crash.
