LOL, what a maroon...he then poured rubbing alcohol on the floor and lit it. When the cops showed up, the house was fully involved. There were so many empty beer cans and vodka bottles that the trash man said he would come back later to get them...

Another of those stories that make you wonder...things that go "DUH" in the night...

Classic case of "gettin' drunk, agin." We humans are sometimes a laughable lot.

"Empty bottles of vodka littered the yard "

Maybe that's why he wanted to get rid of them?

Watch out
You might get what you’re after
Cool babies
Strange but not a stranger
I’m an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the party’s over
Hold tight we’re in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Good grief! The story is crazy enough--but go back to the link, and click on the ads! That's a first for me---ads for prison furniture!

Many years ago my old drunken roommate and a drunken guest were getting drunk and listening to records (this should set the date) when my drunken roommate observed the drunken guest toss a record over his shoulder onto the floor behind him as he said "this record sucks".
Since it was my drunken roommates record he yelled out in protest "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!".
The drunken guest responded "Shut up or I'll burn your house down!".
The drunken guest was then persuaded to leave, whereupon he then began to drive past my drunken roommates house while holding up a lit lighter and a gas can.
My drunken roommate hadn't paid his phone bill, so he was unable to call the police in the normal fashion, but he reasoned that if he put his stereo speakers on the front steps at full volume the police should arrive shortly, as it was 3 AM.
This didn't work, and the drunken guest continued to circle the block cackling hideously each time he passed.
My drunken roommate decided to step things up a notch, so he fetched a gallon of his own gas which he then poured across the street in front of his house, lighting it on fire and creating a 10 foot wall of flame and blocking traffic in both directions.
This worked like a charm summoning the police in about one minute, the only problem being that the drunken guest was long gone and the police arrested my drunken roommate instead.
The drunken roommate passed on many years ago, God rest his soul, but I this story reminded me of him.

So the guests refused to leave, and calling the cops wasn't an option?

Sheez

Leave it to some DITZ (Amy Fischer Roth) at the Trib to leave out a few saliant facts which ARE included in the Sun-Times article:
Man allegedly sets house afire to kick out crackheads
~~~snip~~~ "Craig had asked the two visitors to leave his house when he brought the woman home, but they refused and instead laughed, police said. He asked again and threatened to light the house on fire, but they refused once more, police said."
Now 'Craig' is undoubtedly NOT a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Science but the Trib's article just makes him appear to be a drunken slack-jawed redneck.
You know a typical republican rube Bush supporter to the 'elites' at the Trib.
