I understand from e-mail from one of my children that traffic on the Rainbow Bridge has reopened.

If the bridge is now opened it doesn't sound like any thing very hazardous was released. Was the incident on the American side of the border?

The Rainbow Bridge is more of a tourist bridge than a commercial one. Large trucks are banned on it.

Maybe they dumped Viagra. Sounds like a winner: Viagra in the Niagara.

NEWS BRIEF SNIPPET: "A search Sunday afternoon of the car the men were riding in turned up stacks of fake 100-dollar bills. The Rainbow Bridge border crossing was closed for several hours while authorities conducted a hazardous material alert prompted by the Mace or pepper spray the suspects applied to the bags containing the bogus cash. Your reply about the Rainbow Bridge spanning the Miagara River near the Falls reminds me not many people alive today know the history of this Bridge. This is the SECOND bridge of the same name. The first one was destroyed in a most unusual way. Back over 60 years ago+/- the original span was standing in the middle of a horrible winter when ice floes from Lake Erie tumbled over the Falls in such volume they started to pile up and push against the Bridge. supports. Reporters and photographers from all over assembled to watch the immanent collapse but the Bridge held firmly against the massive pressure of the increasing floe volume. One night,it was a particularly miserable evening and all the photographers [except one from the Simcoe (Ontario) Informer] packed up for the day and went to their respective hotels. The Simcoe photographer was almost ready to do the same when before his very eyes the Bridge started to creak and groan and finally collapsed into the gorge. He couldn't believe his eyes and shot snapshot after snapshot. The next day this man became an international celebrity, and he and his paper made lots of money from every wire service and national news magazine, all of which proves YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE FAITH!
A second bridge was not completed until several years later

Thanks for the info about its predecessor. Although it looks like the one that collapsed in 1938 was the "Honeymoon" bridge?

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent, the eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. YOU have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress her beloved head and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you pass over Rainbow Bridge together....
