You know the saying--"keep your friends close, but your enemies, closer"---

I think that what happened after the "wall came down", we got too complacent and too trusting that the physical wall also symbolized a political/sovreign wall for the Russians...

I think we need to go back to thinking of them in the "keep your enemies, closer", state of policital think!

"either Dodd or Biden. Neither can be trusted to not allow leaking to the press.

Correct wise one. Whatever is there, if at all detrimental to the Bush administration would be headlined in the New York Times the following morning.

Yeah, I guess, but Juan is kinda like a puppy dog being poddy trained. You have to wack him with a flyswatter or newspaper every now and then to get his attention,It gets him back on the paper or the sand where he belongs.

Post of the day. You may be getting the ribbon later. The "peace dividend" may wind up being our downfall. We should never have cut back the military budget. I am a follower of Dr. Milton Friedman and one of the sole purposes of govt. is to provide defense for the nation. That budget should never have gone down at all. Big mistake. Great post.Sorry for the rant but it drives me nuts.

I got to watch mtp since it was on early. I could not help but wonder why this is coming up now - of course, it is a way to bash W.

The dems can't have it both ways---they can't accuse Bolton of imposing his opinions about what to do re: intelligence and invading Syria...

And then turn around and say that the war in Iraq was a failure of the intelligence people---

If you use those arguements, Bolton is damned if he did impose his opinions, and damned if he didn't, and the wrong intel was used to invade Iraq....

Besides, I think there are lot of people (me included) that aren't convinced that the WMDs from Iraq ARE in Syria, and were transferred before the Iraq war.

I don't think Robert NOvak is the only one that is espousing the theory that Cuba has a lot to do with his fight against Bolton...besides, he is decrying a speech that Bolton gave re: Cuba and weapons, that was cleared by the very people that Dodd thinks that Bolton intimidated...

Absolutely I am always reminded of a conversation I had with my then Sales Director at our Christmas lunch in the year the wall came down. He said IHHO we had as much to fear for our national security as before if not more whilst we can rejoice with what had happened for the people freed we must not get complacent that this is the end of the danger for us. He was a lovely man, well read and well traveled and I always respected his judgment on things and consequently have always taken this warning to heart.

I concur the same for Britain this has for a long time been one of my hobby horses but one has to be careful how you put it or you get accused of being in favour of the Communist regime which is not true but at the end of the day I want my country to be safe and secure.

I will have to go back a research what I have read in the past re: Cuba and members of the dems party in Congress...

But, it is no secret that there are quite a few that hate the fact that Bush won't lift the embargo with Cuba and have trade and such with that country....

A whole lot of celebrities are hugh Castro fans, and we all know that those same celebrities have a lot of (unwarranted, IMHO), influence over certain politicians..

There are also aides to both Dodd and Biden that for some reason are fanatically interested in expanding relations between Castro's Cuba and the USA....and these people have a lot of influence with their respective senators and representatives...

If you remember, when Haiti had all of those violent outbreaks last year, and the US "helped" transport Aristide to a "safer" place....Bush got a lot of heat about that, especially from the Congressional Black Caucus...and Aristide, like Castro is NO FRIEND to his countrymen...

It appears not much is going on with MTP or FNS today.

I just realized that MTP must have been on earlier today, due to the French Open. Truly my lucky day.

Bolton is a target because the Dems want to attack Bush's foreign policy. Condi received more nay votes in her confirmation than any SecState in a century.

The reason why these attacks against Bolton have gained more traction than they should is the opposition by careerists, retired and current, at the State Department to his nomination.

Dodd seemed to be hinting that those names could be people that Bolton might be "abusing" .....and of course, Chris Wallace stopped the interview with that sentence hanging out there like an indictment....

Why no Republican "fair and balanced" on Fox today?

Just remember to add, one of the topics of the day was the "peace dividend" that Democrats wanted to spend on social programs. The Democrats controlled the US House and Senate, and were telling us we did not need human intelligence because our satellites would provide everything we needed to know, and what was happening around the world. Bush Sr. didn't respond forcefully and Clinton certainly had no backbone to support either our military or intelligence community. It was after 1994 when the Republicans took over the House and Senate that funds started increasing for military and intelligence support. But, years of neglect left the DOD, State and other agencies still lagging.

There are two women in Ok city, Lorrie Mylorie and another gal, t.v. news woman, can't remember her name, who have documented very well, with agreement from top CIA officials as well, that there very well may have been ben laden and saddam involvement with the Ok. City bombing. The FBI got egg on their face not too long ago for covering up reams of documents on the topic. Few make the connection to the Iraq war, but it seems all too obvious to me.

FR has posted satellite photos of huge semi trucks carrying what was purported to be WMD's into syria. So once again you are right on track Tx.

Excellent post.
