"Some people think that Mormans are not Christian."

'SOME' people?

Let me ask you a (not-so) rhetorical question:

You are a Christian minister who is terribly conflicted because despite your Church's teachings you yearn to be with many women. This is the early 1800s, and you ain't gonna be popular if that comes out.

Then, in a stroke of a (sort-of) genious, you take a religious NOVEL that was penned by your Mother and rejected by publishers, pretend that it is your divinely-inspired translation of a standard Egyptian Hieroglyphic text that no one could (conveniently) understand at the time, and then pass off that novel as a new Revelation of Jesus Christ, leading you to declare yourself the head of the Church based on this new 'Revelation'.

Conveniently, you can now marry many women (though you will be lynched for propagating these views), but your 'disciples' will survive to continue your Church.

Now, if YOU did all that, would you still call yourself a 'Christian'?

Islam, Mormonism and Freudism all sprang from their inventor's desire to have unrestricted sex with as many women as he desired. All three inventors created new religions that allowed them to fulfill these desires. As crazy as it sounds, this is the background of these three cults boiled down to its most elemental part.

All else was just 'window-dressing'.

Occam's Razor still works.

Having said what I just did above, let me be clear - I would rather have a Mormon neighbor than a pagan one;

I would rather vote for a Mormon for political office than for any 'Rat - EVER.

P.S. Harry Reid is a true 'Mormon' as Teddy 'The Swimmer' Kennedy is a true 'Catholic', or as I am a true 'Chinaman' (hint: I ain't from China and don't know Peking from Beijing)

"Brigham Young instituted polygamy he said after divine revelation, after the pioneers had trekked to SLC and thousands of the men (including Joseph Smith) had been murdered or jailed by so called good Christians."

Interesting sidenote. I'm from Nashville, Tn. and about twenty miles west of Nashville there's a historical marker denoting the massacre of a group of Mormons. I had no idea there were Mormons in Tennessee in the 1800's.

Thanks, but just saw an excellent History Channel Special on it the other day.

The people who perpetrated it certainly weren't Christians.

But I don't get your point.

Are you saying that because the early Mormons of Utah slaughtered a wagon train of California-bound pilgrims you would never vote for a Mormon over Hitlery in 2008?!?!?!?

The book "Under the Banner of Heaven" is a really eye opening account about the brutally violent and corrupt history of the Mormon church. As for Romney, this discussion is meaningless because no southern (and mid-west to some extent) Republican will vote for somebody who is both Mormon and a Yankee. It just won't happen.

It is a sham come on Joseph Smith found these golden tablets in the desert from God. He could copy them but God would not let him show them to any one? Please!

Under Brigham Young LDS was a cult of personality the massacre was the natural culmination of that cult. Just like so many other cults, Jim Jones, Waco are perfect examples.

And what of Abraham, David, and Solomon?

But members of the LDS Church are the most dedicated defenders of monogamy and traditional family life in America today. Judge righteous judgment, not by appearances.

Good night.

BTW, this will be my last posting on this topic on this thread.

Why is that? Are you afraid to answer questions? You only made 2 postings in the first place.

there are a couple mormon families that live near my family. They seem alright to me. I graduated with the older son of one of the families and we were pretty good friends....

Mm; think I'll have to get around to blogging on this interesting article.

Goodness... Mouw's backstab is the stab that keeps on stabbing, isn't it? What a moron. And from Fuller -- who could have guessed that? (Okay, besides "anybody with half a brain"?)

I'll just say I'd rather not be forced to choose between two non-Christians. If that's what it comes down to, I'll have to fire up the brain-cells again... always a painful experience.

Otherwise, I'll blog my thoughts on this.

um, a heretic is a person who holds beliefs inconsistent with Christianity.

That would have included several people in the Reformation. I think that we should "judge" a person by his character, not his religion. Actually, I prefer to leave the judging to the Savior himself, for he is the only to who has the true right to do so. There are many good people of all types of religions. I like to focus on that. A Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, or whomever who is sincere in his/her beliefs and strives to do good in this life has my respect.

I would vote Libertarian - for the first time in my life - before I would vote for a candidate who is Mormon.

We are told in Scripture to judge those within the church and ensure that chaff don't get tossed in with the wheat.

Regardless of his religion by signing a smoking ban it shows a) He has no respect for Private Property b) He believes junk science Either which means he shouldn't be the Republican nomination, nor President

I don't see how it is junk science. I hate it when people have no respect for others and smoke right outside a public entrance. Yes, you can step around it, but you shouldn't have to. If people are off a ways, that's fine, but I don't like the smell on me and my clothes. That's a simple courtesy, not junk science.

I can see your private property point (say that three times fast). People should have a right to smoke around their private property.

He will not be president. Borin' Orrin isn't running again.

It seems as though he wants to be on the Supreme Court.

Actually, Joseph Smith instituted polygamy and had more wives than Emma. I thought all Mormons knew that.

Either he had the best of times or the worst of times.
