PITTSBURGH -- New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress failed to pay part of his taxes, according to a collection agency.
Burress
A district judge issued an arrest warrant for Burress on Thursday after he failed to appear at a delinquent tax claim hearing Wednesday.
Burress, who played for the Steelers before signing with the Giants in March, could be arrested and fined $2,500 upon returning to Pennsylvania, said Coraopolis District Judge Mary Murray.
Keystone Municipal Collections attorney Tom Kratzenberg said Burress owes taxes for 1998 through 2002. The 1 percent wage tax was to be split between Moon Township and the Moon Area School District.
The amount of taxes was not specified.
The Steelers paid Burress almost $15.2 million during his five years with the team, though he did not live in Moon Township the entire time.
A woman who answered the phone at Burress' Pittsburgh home hung up without commenting and Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined to comment..

An arrest warrant was issued for Giants receiver Plaxico Burress for tax evasion on Thursday, but according to his tax attorney, the whole thing was a mistake. A district judge in Coraopolis, Pa., issued the warrant after Burress failed to appear in court to answer the charge that he did not file returns or pay taxes (possibly as much as $90,000) while he lived in Moon Township. But Potter said that according to Pennsylvania law, Burress, as a nonresident whose primary residence is in Miami, was required to pay taxes only where he worked - in the city of Pittsburgh. "We checked with the city to confirm he's fully paid to the city of Pittsburgh," Potter said. "So at the end of the day he really doesn't owe this bill." Potter said Burress wasn't even aware that a collection agency was pursuing him. "I'm not sure they even knew how to communicate with him," Potter said. However, it's not clear why Burress did not appear in court. Potter said the collection agency asked for a letter confirming that Burress has paid in full. When that arrives next week, the charges are expected to be dropped.

yeah the guy I am working with today is a big steelers fan, so he got a good laugh out of it...
As it turns out, the tax rate was 1%, so I wonder how long he hasnt been paying his taxes....
Get with the program man.

LOL
Well he forgot how much bigger he was than Assante Samuel in the AFC title game so I can see him forgetting to pay his taxes.
The NY sports media is going to have fun with this story.
And he makes millions of dollars! Let him keep it! He shouldn't have to pay taxes like the rest of us! /EXTREME SARCASM
Now Burress' agent is denying the story.

I'm so glad the Steelers got rid of him. Note to self, always trust Bill Cowher, he knows what he'd doing. I was at first mad when he was released.
These NFL guys are flatout underpaid...sheesh, it's not a living wage if you can't even pay your taxes.

well I liked when the Steelers had him. If you played good defense against him for the first quarter of the game, he would take himself out with his attitude :)
Yes I am a Browns fan :)
now that's interesting....
I wonder if the collectors are bent Steelers' fans?
