McCain Urging Accord on Bolton and Secret Documents By DOUGLAS JEHL and CARL HULSE
WASHINGTON, May 27 - One of John R. Bolton's leading Republican backers, Senator John McCain of Arizona, signaled his support on Friday for a compromise in which the White House might allow Senate leaders access to highly classified documents in return for a final vote early next month on Mr. Bolton's nomination as United Nations ambassador.
The conciliatory signal from Mr. McCain came as Senate leaders traded blame over who was responsible for the miscalculation that led to Mr. Bolton's nomination being blocked Thursday. But the White House showed no sign that the Bush administration might change course.
"The Democrats who are clamoring for this have already voted against John Bolton," Scott McClellan, the White House spokesman, said in a telephone interview. "This is about partisan politics, not documents. They have the information they need."
Appearing on the Fox News Channel, Mr. McCain reiterated his support for Mr. Bolton. He also praised an argument made by, among others, Senator Richard G. Lugar, Republican of Indiana, who has urged the administration to provide the Senate with more information related to Mr. Bolton's conduct. Senators calling on the administration to share the documents "have some substance to their argument," Mr. McCain said.

You mean McLame? I once read that he is the only reverse ace; flew five missions, got shot down five times. Hero my butt!
"Scott McClellan, the White House spokesman, said in a telephone interview... "This is about partisan politics, not documents. They have the information they need."
What "compromise" is McCain supporting? The WH has said "no".
Your negative comments about Frist are getting a little too obvious.
We get the message - you don't like him. You don't have to continually remind us .. don't assume (like the MSM) that we are too stupid to pick up on this.
I say we elect Boulton as President and let him lop off the top ten floors of the Republican Senate building!
FOX played an interview tape of Roberts saying he and Rockefeller had seen the documents and there was nothing in there which reflected badly on Bolton. I have not heard Rockefeller making any comments about it - but I'm sure he probably has.
The dems just want to see what democrat names have been redacted from the document. They don't have a "RIGHT" to see this stuff - and if McCain tries to make some kind of "deal" over it - he's pushing his power over the cliff.
I wonder how much of Soros' money got tipped into John's coffers for this little stunt.
Hide from what exactly?
IMO, you aren't cynical enough. What makes you think he supports Bolton? The only one he supports is himself. He is a party of one. If something he does pokes Bush in the eye, all the better.
FOTFL Sad, but true.
He's openly supported Bolton. He has said so, and I believe he will vote for him in a straight vote. Just because I don't like McCain's behavior doesn't change his very open support for Bolton.
As I said, IMO, you aren't cynical enough. If your spouse tells you that they love you & that they support you in everything you want to do, but openly fools around on you, you gonna feel the love?
You're taking a far too broad view of my sentiments. All I said was he supports Bolton; he does. Period, end of statement. Make no assumptions about whether or not I think McCain is loyal or anything else, merely that he supports Bolton, which he has, and more vocally than many other Republicans.
Gotcha. Maybe I'm too jaded. Actions always speak louder than words for me.
"Hide from what exactly?"
His bloody awful record of C&C, he is a pitiful leader of men, or mice.

Remind "us," do "you," have a mouse in your pocket?
So, disuade me and enlighten "us" as to the sterling qualities of his leadership and acomplishments as the GOP stud duck in the senate.
Quite frankly .. I don't give a rip what you think .. but constantly making negative comments about somebody doesn't help anything .. it just tells people more about you.
Norm just said it the best.
C&C?
"Quite frankly .. I don't give a rip what you think .. but constantly making negative comments about somebody doesn't help anything .. it just tells people more about you"
Hey ...ant, you started this .issing contest, and then you have the gaul to berate me for making negative comments about Frist? ...off jerk.
