McCain Urging Accord on Bolton and Secret Documents By DOUGLAS JEHL and CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON, May 27 - One of John R. Bolton's leading Republican backers, Senator John McCain of Arizona, signaled his support on Friday for a compromise in which the White House might allow Senate leaders access to highly classified documents in return for a final vote early next month on Mr. Bolton's nomination as United Nations ambassador.

The conciliatory signal from Mr. McCain came as Senate leaders traded blame over who was responsible for the miscalculation that led to Mr. Bolton's nomination being blocked Thursday. But the White House showed no sign that the Bush administration might change course.

"The Democrats who are clamoring for this have already voted against John Bolton," Scott McClellan, the White House spokesman, said in a telephone interview. "This is about partisan politics, not documents. They have the information they need."

Appearing on the Fox News Channel, Mr. McCain reiterated his support for Mr. Bolton. He also praised an argument made by, among others, Senator Richard G. Lugar, Republican of Indiana, who has urged the administration to provide the Senate with more information related to Mr. Bolton's conduct. Senators calling on the administration to share the documents "have some substance to their argument," Mr. McCain said.

He's just the little dealmaker these days, huh?

FRist needs to have a little chat with John and in no uncertain terms, set him straight.

Once again McCain sides with the Dims. I almost can't stand to hear his name anymore. A man I once admired and respected. This is sickening.

When the prospect of a filibuster was first broached at a lunchtime meeting on Tuesday, senior Democratic officials said, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware and two others found little appetite for the idea. Fellow Democrats dismissed the move as being at odds with the spirit of the Monday night agreement on judicial nominations. - DOUGLAS JEHL and CARL HULSE, New York Times reporters

Carrying the water as usual for the Democrats, this admission by the NYT that the move not only "quacks like a filibuster" but is one, comes toward the bottom of the piece and is carefully couched.

While I will say at least McCain supports Bolton for a vote, I have just about had enough of that POS urging deals like this.

Sit in your corner and shut the heck up.

Now , mind you, I would never 'compel', much less threaten him, just remind him who was selected as the Majority Leader, for what it would be worth, futile exercise or otherwise..

Oops, that's right , he's a maverick and proud of it.

Toss him out of the party, then.

"Once again McCain sides with the Dims."

He really believe this filibuster is about the documents the Dems want? They've pulled the same stunt two or three times to delay.

That should kill this suggestion. The White House is crazy if they don't make this suggest a dead letter just because of its source. They have to do that to take back control.

The Dems agreed to some restraint on judicial appointments--not anything else.

The Dems are on a fishing trip, but won't vote for Boloton no matter WJAT!

They and the MSM have screamed and screamed about the supposed "outing" of Valerie Plame, when EVERYONE knew about her and her husband had blabbed ( OUTED !) her anyway. The names of COVERT agents, in the highly SECRET docs the damned Dems and Voiny are demanding to see, have less than nothing at all to do with their votes on Bolton. And dollars to donuts, they'd OUT the for REAL covert/in DEEP COVER agents. WHY? Because they are pro-Castro and want relations with Castro and Cuba to be put back 40+ years.

No he can't compel them, but doesn't the majority leader get to dole out a lot of perks, including committee assignments? How about stripping some of these prima donnas some of the more desirable perks?

Another "compromise"...gee, Senator, didn't you just do that? It worked less than 48 hours. Only 3 out of 7 Dems voted for cloture.
