TUCSON, Ariz. A 27-year-old man has been sentenced in Tucson to 15 years in prison in connection with the slaying seven years ago of a Border Patrol agent.

Juan Manuel Mares-Rivas, a Mexican citizen, is the last of four defendants in the case to be sentenced. Border Patrol Agent Alexander Kirpnick was killed in June 1998 west of Nogales after he encountered four men trying to smuggle marijuana across the U-S-Mexico border.

Umares-Rivas, of Mexico, was extradited to Tucson after the three other defendants in the case had been sentenced.

He pleaded guilty to federal drug and weapons charges.

...sentenced in Tucson to 15 years in prison...

Another source stated "he has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and three years of supervised release". This jerk should be deported after he's released from prison.

If it happened 15 years ago and he is now just 27 he was 12 at the time. Are we sure the ages are correct?

Uh...1998 would have been seven years ago and he would have been 20.

Obviously he was not directly involved with the killing...or he should go away for the rest of his life...or be executed IMHO.

I'm surprised they didn't give him a driver license, free healthcare, free college tuition and a job no American will take.

Why only 15 years? I guess illegal aliens can get off easy for killing an American citizen. Disgusting! An American would have probably gotten 25 years to life...

We should give him some dope and put him on plane for Indonesia. He'll get more time (20 years) for the dope there than he will for murder here and we won't have to pay for his upkeep for 15 years.

Why only 15 years?

A better article about this can't be posted here due to some copyright rigamarole. The man was extradicted from Mexico last year and he pleaded guilty to federal drug and weapons charges. He was never charged with attempted murder, murder, or for being an accomplice to the crime.

Also, notice that the article I did post refers to the perp as a "Mexican citizen". That sounds a whole lot nicer than drug smuggling, border hoppng illegal alien from Mexico who was an accomplice to the murder of a Border Patrol agent.
