There are times when I think the thread poster should be a defacto moderator. That's not a bad idea, but I think you would need to have a 'site' mod, too. That way the poster couldn't post obscene stuff and get away with it.

Right. Well, I'm not advocating doing way with mods, maybe though for every thread there could be an "On Topic" and "Off topic" part, and the poster would be able to keep the thread on target. Just a thought.
I just like to debate, and a lot of good threads putter out because of the chaff.
