Prayers sent.

I wonder if we should ping Michael Moore and point out yet another politician whose son was fighting? Nah, he'd probably just ignore it and continue his lies.

More info from KARE 11 News

Matthew Lourey, son of state Sen. Becky Lourey, has been killed in Iraq, a senate spokesman said.

Details of the death of the helicopter pilot were not immediately available, said John Pollard, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson.

Johnson was expected to convene a news conference later Friday.

Lourey represents Minnesota's 8th Congressional District, and lives in the Pine County town of Kerrick.

The military said earlier Friday that two U.S. soldiers were killed Thursday when their helicopter was shot down and crashed in central Iraq, but it was not clear if Lourey was involved in that crash near Buhriz, about 35 miles south of Baghdad.

Matthew Lourey is the third of Becky Lourey's 12 children to die.

Rest in peace, brave soldier, and may God comfort your family and friends.

A very harsh reminder of what Memorial Day is about.

I agree. While we are all comfortable in our homes having fun on Memorial Day we need to remember our brave soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and our soldiers everywhere. Prayers for Sen. Becky Lourey and her family. Rest in peace brave soldier!

We should pray for her.

And while this may seem macabre, it should be noted that she is running for the DFL nomination for Governor...which if you include Westerling (sic) would have two sympathetic women who have lost children at the top of the DFL ticket.

Hmmm.

"Lourey, DFL-Kerrick, had 12 children, two had died before Lourey's death."

A Dem activist with 12 children! That is unusual.

Four are biological childrena and the rest are adopted. I believe the son that was killed was not adopted.

I'm from Minnesota and Senator Lourey is a very liberal DFL Senator but let's not have any crude political comments about that here. Her family made a tremendous sacrifice. God bless her.

When I read a post like"someone of someone famous is killed" my stomach just turns. Would the article even exist if it was the son of your neighbor who lives around the corner from you? You guessed right...NO!

During Viet Nam and now, in this war, it seems that only sons and daughters of IMPORTANT people are worthy of posting, the other serfs are merely to pass away with position in life than the elite...and are not worthy of mention.

Who should care whether the person who died was related to a senator? Was the death more important than those who were not worthy of mention?

Certainly the death was a loss. But it is not more of a loss than someone with a lesser station in life.

As far as I am concerned, ALL of our military personnel are on equal footing, fighting for the same thing and taking the same risks and I am just sick of hearing only news about the elite's sons and daughters and just how awful it is---that is, when they die.

I think it's worth posting to note how few of the elite do have their sons and daughters in harms way. This Senator could probably have steered her son into a more lucrative/less dangerous career but she didn't. I think that is worthy of respect and note.

If you are advocating weeding out all the frivolous posts on FR the death of a US soldier is a bad one to start with.

Becky Lourey represents my district in the Minnesota Senate. Though we disagree on virtually everything political, I have met her and find her to be a gracious lady. I am deeply saddened at the loss of her son. May he rest in peace and may God's peace be with her family.
