GENUINE GAL

"I've butted heads with a few people - anyone who tells me I have to spruce up my hair and buy a new wardrobe - I haven't worn makeup since I was 21. You have to be authentic and genuine in serving the populace."

- Former FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley, who had urged the bureau to investigate terrorism suspect Zacarias Moussaoui weeks before Sept. 11, 2001, offended by suggestions that she would require a "makeover" before she could run for Congress in Minnesota as a Democrat.

This little tidbit is from a column where the author mentions different and various things happening the past week or so. This one caught my eye and I was not surprised to see she is running as a Dem.

When I returned from Hawaii in 93 and started in earnest to watch the news and politics, one of the first things I noticed was the Dems on television always seemed shabby. After awhile, 9 times out of 10, without hearing what was said, you could spot a Republican over a Dem. The Republicans was and still are, seem to take better care of themselves and care about their appearance. The females have better clothes, better hair, better makeup. The men have better suits, snappy ties, better combed hair, etc. The woman above states she has not worn makeup since she was 21. I wonder if part of the Dem mindset is to look shabby?

I don't think they have a desire to look shabby so much as they have a low self-esteem.

Not every Democrat is shabby, though. I have seen some well-dressed, nice looking Democrats. They are a minority.

And not every Republican is well-dressed. But at least they take the time to look good on TV.

That John Edwards feller knows how to take some time to look good on TV.

You're right about that. I saw that little video making the rounds last fall on the Breck Girl. The one with him getting primped for a television spot.

The SC johnny-edwards, Lindsey Graham, sure does look like he is trim and buffed to perfection on the Tee-Vee! gag...
Can't wait to see him back "home" in front of the Conservatives in SOUTH Carolina!

Most of the time listen to FOX, rather than actually watch it. Generally speaking the whiny, through the nose speakers are liberals. My theory is that they think a nasel voice sounds more sincere.

Oops - I need to edit my post more carefully.

Speaking of whining, what is the problem with RFK, Jr. He sounds like he is about to break down and cry everytime I see or hear him. He is about as bad as Norv Turner was when coaching the Skins. Every week it was the same nasal, whiny tone explaining why they lost. Speak like a man!

I've butted heads with a few people

I would characterize this method of settling disputes as being 'out of the mainstream'.
