Today, May 26, 2005, the American public and people all over the world witnessed a spectacle on the floor of the US Senate. A US Senator from Ohio, Senator Voinovich, broke down on the floor of the Senate and cried as he expressed his opposition to President Bush's nomination for UN Ambassador, John Bolton. In his impassioned and (apparently) sincere plea, he cried and told America and the world how he was unwilling to "risk" our representation at the UN to Mr. Bolton, and how he, Senator Voinovich feared for his children and grandchildren.
Apparently in considering Mr. Bolton, Senator Voinovich was not present at the confirmation hearings where Bolton testafied and has not met with Mr. Bolton. This alone makes one suspicious of the true nature of today's spectacle.
But, a grandfather fearing for his children and grandchildren is not something to take lightly or cavalierly dismiss. As the father of five children, and the grandfather of three grandchildren with a fourth on the way, I know this to be true. So, I wanted, grandfather to grandfather...father to father...to respond to Senator Voinovich.
I understand his feelings. I too fear for my children and grandchildren.
But I do not fear having a man such as John Bolton as our Ambassador...I fear NOT having a man such as Mr. Bolton as our Ambassador to the UN.

You're right!!!Sen. Crybaby has lost a few cards off the deck. A day later and I still can't believe what I heard and saw . BTW, Sen DeWhine is no better either. They still insist Republician beliefs, HA! HA!
Thanks...I just sent the entire article to him.
Does anyone believe that we will ever know the truth behind Voinovitch's performance on the Senate floor? It surely was very strange.
I fear for my grandchildren becuse of the whining crybabies and giddy egotists that compose the US Senate.
Voinivich may have been sincere, but what planet is he living on?
To be a man of principled ideas and strong convictions, with the knowledge, experience, and (most of all) backbone to fight for these ideas is to be exactly what we need in the UN--if there is going to be a UN. Suits me fine if they all pack up and go home.
vaudine
Same thought here. As if someone was going to do something horrible to him if Bolton gets confirmed. Like a scene from "The Sopranos"...
Who knows? But what he did (for whatever reason) is something we should stand against in any case IMHO.
I think his family needs to get him to a Neurologist soon. Seriously, I believe this man is sick.
In any case, it is something we should stand against.
I agree.
The way he was whimpering, sniffing and whining, it's impossible to believe Violinovich, has the gonads to create children and grandchildren without a lot of help from his friends.
SEN. Crybaby Has lost a few cards off the deck . It's a day later and I still can't believe what I heard. BTW, Sen. DeWhine isn't any better. They still preach conservative beliefs--HA!
BLACKWELL FOR GOV. '06!!!!
Even the girl aide sitting behind him was more of a man.
He just needed a Midol. He may have had a cramp.
Seems time has come when the should be a two term time limit. When we have people who care more about the UN than they do about the USA. I think we should all fear for our children and grandchildren.
Ohio needs 2 new senators. ASAP.
But I will stand four square against the spectacle on the Senate floor and the things he said there...for all of the reasons I indicated in my article.
Personally, I fear having a "man" like George Voinovich in a position of authority.
The little turntable in his microwave doesn't go round and round anymore.
Perhaps he fears that it would be more difficult to scam money from the US if Bolton was the ambassador. Maybe that's where he gets his campaign contributions from. sob whimper sob sob.....
Given what we are seeing...I believe you are right to fear for our nation. We must stand against such things whenever we see them in whatever capacity our means and particular positions of influence allow.
