Richmond, Virginia RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman formally endorsed Jerry Kilgore for Governor of Virginia at a luncheon in Richmond this afternoon.
Jerry Kilgore previously served as Virginias Attorney General after being elected in November 2001 with over 60% of the vote. Prior to his term as Attorney General, Kilgore served as Secretary of Public Safety for then-Governor, George Allen.
Jerry Kilgore is a proven leader with a clear and consistent record of serving the people of Virginia well, Chairman Mehlman said. There is no doubt in my mind that Jerry will be an incredible Governor and will serve this state with the highest level of integrity and honesty.
Mehlman concluded, Virginia is a state that supports common-sense leadership and core Republican values. We look forward to working with Jerry to ensure The Old Dominion comes back home to the GOP.

Hey...we'll take every endorsement we can get.
After all, who can remember the last time Jawn Warner actually endorsed a Republican?

We do have our act together on this. There is a primary opponent, but he has little money and no chance. Don't worry, we'll take the seat back.......

Are we back to the days when Jawn Warner got booed off the stage at GOP events in Virginia? He'd behaved in recent years -- redeemed himself and was actually able to show his face in public around here. The base knows Warner's role in the sellout and I'm wondering if disgruntled conservatives' lack of enthusiasm will hurt Jerry Kilgore.

I recently saw a Kilgore ad coming out for higher teacher pay. All the "children are our future" garbage. Yeah, it would be a real tragedy if "we" lose.
Does anybody else remember his campaign a couple of years ago to make beauticians report women with bruises? How'd you like a knock on the door because Deputy Eunice doesn't like you?
To: Ligeia
No, I think the conservatives are excited enough about Kilgore and Allen that we'll be okay.
Everyone knows J.Warner is an old coot.
They'll be respectful because he's the "senior" Senator and has been in office longer.
But no one wants him around for another term.

Isn't there anybody decent in Virginia to run?

Isn't there anybody decent in Virginia to run? Yeah there is. His name is Jerry Kilgore and he will be Virginia's next great Governor.
Don't jump to conclusions if you haven't read up on him.

After all, who can remember the last time Jawn Warner actually endorsed a Republican? You don't think he's trying to curry favor with real Republicans in preparation for another Senate bid do you? He's counting on us having short memories. Lets disappoint him.

You don't think he's trying to curry favor with real Republicans in preparation for another Senate bid do you? If he thinks that after this week, he's the one with the short memory.

OK - which one of you jokers do I send the bill to for my new keyboard? :)
Granted I haven't been around very long, but to me even Warner's endorsement should be a no-brainer, let alone the RNC - I'm just surprised it has taken the RNC so long to get on the bandwagon.
As to all the naysayers on this thread about Jerry Kilgore - I guess we won't be seeing them in Richmond in January, will we?
