PALO ALTO, California (CNN) -- This week's Inside Edge ties to a new segment I am doing on CNN television.
Each month on CNN's "Live From" with anchors Kyra Phillips and Miles O'Brien, I'll profile five individuals to watch in the political arena.
I start with "the next Karl Rove," five political consultants to watch.
While few people outside of Texas knew who he was a decade ago, today Karl Rove is a household name as President Bush's top political adviser. Barbara Walters even named him to her "2004 Ten Most Fascinating People" list.
Rove is perhaps the most influential political adviser of the last century, but may "retire" when his boss does in 2008. So, assuming that he actually retires, who will be the next Karl Rove?
The obvious and most likely choices are, of course, RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman or former Gore campaign manager Donna Brazile.
There are several, less-well known candidates who just may surprise us, however, and emerge front and center as political powerhouses in 2008 and beyond. Here are five contenders:
Sara Taylor, 30, is the youngest White

Political wunderkind are usually only wunderkind in hindsight.
ROFLMOL...he just blew his credibility.
The guy who managed Pete Sessions congressional victory of Martin Frost will go farther than some on that list.
The guy was brilliant.
That was the hottest House race in the country. The DNC pumped all sorts of cash and help into Frost's campaign...and Pete still beat him with strong numbers.
Its probably a good thing that he is not on that list.
Not being real famous will only help him on the next campaign that he runs.
This dude is a gamer!
I actually think Donna Brazile is a pretty smart girl who's been forced to fend for some very VERY lousy candidates.
Interesting. So what do we think will happen to Rove? RNC chairman, no?
"I actually think Donna Brazile is a pretty smart girl.."
Yes, I agree with your assessment of her, and her career. The dems would go far would they listen to her more, no doubt. But as a pretty smart girl myself, all I can say is, it's no surprise the "old boys" haven't leant her their ear.
Of all the dames on the left, I'd love to get her over here!
You clearly hold a higher opinion of her than I do. Might I point out that if she's fending for "very VERY lousy candidates" that she isn't a bright as you seem to believe? Smart people connect with strong candidates and distances themselves from the dregs.
"I actually think Donna Brazile is a pretty smart girl who's been forced to fend for some very VERY lousy candidates."
The deal with her is that she is trapped in the warped rat world. She can see the shiite flying in on them way before the rest of the barn dwellers can. But like the rest of them, see can't do a damned thing about it.
Not only that, Donna Brazile is a racist.
I really don't hold that high of an opinion of her. I find her abrasive and condescending, and she carries a giant chip on her shoulder. That said, she has made some insightful comments regarding the state of the electorate -- comments the democrats have failed to heed.
what about Ralph Reed? he seems to know what he's doing...
