New York, NY, May. 25 (UPI) -- A $4 billion plan for control of the National Hockey League reportedly would split the league's 30 teams into three tiers based on market value.
The plan has been offered by private-equity firms Bain Capital LLC and Game Plan LLC, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday quoting a person familiar with the proposal. It comes at a time when team owners and players are yet to resolve a labor dispute that canceled the 2004-05 hockey season.

Even if the collective group of NHL/NHLPA idiots don't come to an agreement or if this LBO doesn't happen, I'm still looking forward to our new AHL team this fall.

the NHL laughed at the notion of this proposal yesterday...which means they are probably considering it...

How could anyone possibly consider making a $4 billion buy-out offer without first resolving the labor dispute? This makes NO sense whatsoever..

I knew it was a stupid idea to bring hockey to Nashville...the franchise will probably go bye-bye.

My guess is that the new ownership would resolve the labor dispute by having new tryouts. Be interesting to say the least - to see how well the NHLPA holds up with something like that. Hopefully they'd start with a new commissioner as well.

It'll be interesting to see if a rivalry still exists when these 2 take the ice, if ever. And, I'll not be the first, but certainly in a long line of folks who will say that Stevie Y is the classiest captain to ever wear the 'C' for any team.

yeah....I hope his last year he could have been playing wasnt this past one. That would really suck.
MY guess is, as I have heard rumor or two, is that they will have a deal hammered out by June 10th, if not sooner....

How could anyone possibly consider making a $4 billion buy-out offer without first resolving the labor dispute? If you have many owners they cannot agree to "fix" the price of wages -- that violates anti-trust laws because you have a combination in restraint of trade. Those owners have to have a collective bargaining agreement with an union in order to fix the rate of wages. If, on the other hand, you have one owner of an entire league, that owner can fix the price of wages because he (she/it) is not combining with others in restraint of trade but simply adopting rules for one workplace.

I know that most people think the bad blood started when Clod cheap-shotted Draper into the boards, but I think it all started during the playoffs in 1996 when Patrick went "cup-check" with the big Koho on Dino Cicarelli to get him out of the crease.
