I thought the GOP failed to recruit the best challengers to Stabenow, thus making her retention of the seat likely. I hope this is not the case. One reason I read for the supposedly top-tier candidates not running is that they hope to run for Levin's seat next if he retires.


But anyway, Landrieu voted for Brown, which surprises me because she doesn't have to pretend to not be a liberal again until 2007 at the earliest. None of the other so-called moderate Dems voted for her.

The bad news is that Mike Rogers and Candice Miller aren't running. They were our best shots and our A-team.

That said, we still have a shot unless the GOP'ers abandon the race. Keith Butler has a shot if he gets help. He's not Alan Keyes.

Landrieu's vote was probably a polite concession, since I believe Louisiana is in the appellate district where Owen will preside.
