Ah, the Good Old Days! Back then, if you tried to pull a stunt like that, they'd tar and feather you, and run you out of town on a rail.

That's why they called 'em the Good Old Days.

Actually, IIRC, Benjamin Franklin tried to negotiate a settlement with the Crown prior to the Declaration of Independence, but the Crown (or likely his Ministers) wanted no terms, but total capitulation. Had the Crown relented some and given the Colonies representation in Parliament and some more say in local legislative and executive authority, history would have been quite different.

Moderates = dead back then. You stood for something or you died for something end of story.

Ah, yes, and Neville Chamberlain showed how it could be done in negotiating "peace in our time" with Hitler. But far be it from me to construct any analogy that would suggest any similarity between the Dims and the National SOCIALISTS of the Third Reich.

Reminds me of this:

The Top 5 Differences If America Were Still Under British Rule:

5) How tough can a rapper be with a name like "50p"?

4) We'd all be speaking English.

3) We'd still be fat and arrogant -- we'd just sound smarter.

2) Everyone would spell "colour" and "cheque" correctly.

and the Number 1 Difference If America Were Still Under British Rule...

1) Without guns, urban gangs would engage in drive-by snubbings.
