>>Where is our Constitutional Republic in all this?<<

Bob,

A lot of FReepers are having a hard time these days accepting that the President is selling us out with the CAFTA treaty and his disgusting enthusiasim about protecting our borders. It is so much easier to look for the good things that are happening than discussing the bad ones.

Don't worry, they'll come around the day before the Constitution gets burned on the front steps of the White House. That's when we'll hear some great arguments about why the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were never actually needed and why the UN Charter is so much better.

"What is a PATRIOT?"
PATRIOTS are not "Revolutionaries" trying to overthrow the government of the United States.

PATRIOTS are "Counter-Revolutionaries" trying to prevent the government of the United States from overthrowing the Constitution of the United States. - Unknown Author

A nominee for the DUMBEST COMMENT IN FR HISTORY

but then agian your post is full of dimwitted quotes. Anyone who makes a comparison between Bush/Republicans and Stalin deserves to be kicked in the ass.

Hi. Bob...;
Needed to be said... often and loudly..
Any that think the republican party is not standing on ground that democrats stood on ten or twenty years ago has been in a coma.. or are new republicans and are ignorant..

The democrat party twenty years ago was still a socialist pit.. they have gotten worse and the republican party has become just like them.. I would say like ten years ago, myself..

You are correct.. Two democrat partys.. Both partys are a LIE.. The democrat party is really the/a socialist party and the republican party has become the democrat party.. of yester-year.. To be exact, there "IS" no visible republican party at all.. Its caput..

The voters of both partys are in extreme denial.. even here on Free Republic.. This Free Republic is in extreme jeopardy.. and has long since morphed into a democracy.. The only thing vaguely Republican about America is having a vestigal republican party.. that is no republican party AT ALL..

Good screed Bob.. lay it on.. Maybe some will come out of their coma.. Its the rare republican that will not get all warm and fuzzy after receiving a government CHECK..

the way he treated Miguel Estrada, he is arguably worse than the Democrats in the Senate.

Anything to support that statement?

Republicans are, after all, The Stupid Party. Whenever I get real mad at them I try to remind myself of that fact.

Good rant, Bob.

I may not agree with every jot and tittle, but I share your disgust with the way our leaders are squandering the hard-earned political capital we've entrusted them with.

While my level of disappointment has not risen to the same level as yours, your points are well taken and understandable given the anti-climactic way all this occured at the last minute and then scumbag-Reid's taunting, in-yo-face, comments afterwards.

Well, I used to be a Republican. I have been betrayed so many times I have lost count. The Republican Party of Florida re-districted me out of the Congressional District in West Orlando [where I live] and placed me in WEST JACKSONVILLE - nearly 100 miles away. There are three Congressional Districts in West Orlando, but I am assigned to West Jacksonville... a district so gerrymandered that some portions are only as wide as the center line in the middle of the highway.

Awwwwwwww What, you don't like your congresswoman?????

So what else is new? I've been saying the same thing for several years. Glad to hear you've joined my cause, Bob.

Now, the Democrats should declare the following:

The Social Security debate has ended, as the public has rejected partial privatization and is not demanding any hasty changes to the system.

In turn, Democrats will no longer participate in congressional hearings on Social Security, and will not debate Social Security with Republicans in the media, at least until Republicans stop trying to phase out SS by privatizing it.

Instead, Democrats will begin addressing the real crisis of Medicare and skyrocketing health care costs, by putting on the table a few comprehensive reform plans, leading their own hearings to foster public debate and discussion about them, and culminating with a single plan for the party to run on in the 2006 congressional elections.

Why would this strategy work? Because it flows from what Democrats have been saying all along.

President George Bush has not distinguished himself by fighting for his judicial nominees

You say on the day Priscilla Owen wins confirmation.

Your "analysis" is silly and sophomoric.

Bob is NOT just reacting to the current situation.

It just does not seem to matter which party is in control - things continue to deteriorate. Let's see over the last 20 years:

First Amendment:

1) Hate speech laws, PC run amok threaten/weaken/destroy the First Amendment.

2) Anti free speech in the passed campaign finance laws. New FEC laws proposed to regulate/fine internet sites that are involved in politics (See Redstate.org).

3) Anti free speech laws regarding abortion (special laws governing how close protestors can get to an abortion clinic, among others).

4) Anti religious groups and judges ruling against the First Amendment (Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof). Note that there seem to be many laws that have been passed that disregard the second part "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" of this amendment.

Education/Government:

1) Education system that is collapsing due to government/union controls. Parents have no say anymore. Those that have the gold (government/unions) control the agenda…

2) Big government spending continues at an ever increasing pace threatening economic collapse. Guess the Republicans decided to grab some of the gold for themselves.

There are many other things that could be added, but you get the point. Don’t be surprised that these patterns eventually cause some negativity in an otherwise optimistic outlook. Sometimes it seems that we go back two steps for every step forward…

there is no good reason for me to vote any longer.

Fine. Then you have no right to complain anymore.
