Lindsey Graham R-SC is so disappointing.

This guy is DANGEROUS [smile]. Another maverick waiting to cause a lot of havoc for the GOP. It's like that nut from Norht Korea, when they don't have the goods, at least they enjoy casusing hell and worry for others. What? me too aggresive? :)

S.C. Get rid off him!!!!

Why does your link show NewsMax.com when it leads to RightMarch.com?

I don't think it will be necessary to toss the "mavericks" out on their asses. One unmentioned consequence of bucking your party, especially on a keynote issue like this...sometimes, your party just doesn't feel so motivated about supporting your pet issues when it comes time to move legislation.

McCain has a steroids bill he seems rather fond of. It'd be too bad if it never made it out of the committee.

All of these Senators have their pieces of pork they'd like to get into appropriation bills.

And any dreams of the Presidency or the Vice-Presidency? You can't even play for the team when the guy that's in office is a guy you campaigned for, and who is doing exactly what he said he would do, when you were campaigning for the guy? Good luck trying to get the nomination, Mr. Maverick.

And don't forget, this fight isn't over. The filibuster isn't dead. Let's nominate an otherwise "acceptable" candidate for the Supreme Court, who unfortunately is an open attendee at a church, and who actually says that "his favorite philosopher is Jesus Christ". Good luck with that one. There go the democrats, and is there anyone who can't, without a second thought, name five current GOP Senators who would break out in hives at the thought of putting this guy on the Supreme Court? And that's not even counting Spector, McCain, and whoever Voinovich and Hagel are this week.

Based on this "victory for conservatives", I'm not entirely sure we could muster up the 50 votes to get George W. Bush's ideological twin over the hump. And that is just sorry.

I have two words that can oust Nelson fast and they are:

Tom Osborne

Right.

Something has to be done, so that the next senator thinking of making a RINO move knows there will be consequences and will stop in his tracks. But we can't abandon the party.

Frist needs to use a scalpel, not a sledgehammer, on these folks. Rhetorically, of course.

As a doctor, he should be skilled in doing that! :)

And a bit tangential, but here goes: I disagreed with the comprimise but I understand one of the underlying reasons for it: the democrats could always win back a majority...then we'll want to filabuster judges, won't we?

Well, it's probably not a good idea to plan now for the day you are in the minority. It could end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy. But, that doesn't matter, really...

If a moveon.org-fueled Democrat party ever captures the Senate, those 51 votes to change the rules will materialise before every senator has even made it to their seats.

Good grief, Chafee didn't vote for our woman from Tejas (just saw the roll call vote).

OK, I retract some of what I wrote...toss him out.

My opinion, sad to say, is that the Republicans would NEVER have the guts to do it . . . and that if they did, the Democrats would use the "nuclear option" in a heartbeat. And the MSM wouldn't blink an eye.

A Republican "wimp-out" only emboldens the Dems, demoralizes the base and makes the day of minority status come sooner.

Just my opinion.

I hope I'm, wrong, and all this works out.

True. Could very well happen. Doesn't matter, to me though, if the MOVEon crowd ever does get 51 seats, you can call me a resident of Costa Rica >>>sarcasm<<<<<.

It could well be! I remember the Bork debacle.

If conservatives can't get judges now, with 55 votes, then when can we?

I don't know.

Loved ones of POW's dislike him, too. We could probably do a long thread on this, actually. LOL!

7 senators have decided on their own to transfer to themselves the representation of all people who voted Republican.

I don't think so. That's like saying the deciding voter on any issue has taken it upoin himself to represent all the people.

The signatories of this agreement have formed a little bi-partisan voting block, which any group of senators or representatives has the right to do. It just so happens that with this issue, their voting block gets to decide because the vote is otherwise so close.

Last week: No agreement, no judges.

This week: An agreement, one judge.

That advances the ball.

This issue SHOULD NOT SPLIT THE PARTY.
It already has. (with the help of the RINOs)

THE DEMS WIN.
They already have. (with the help of the RINOs)

Maybe I will. Until the Republicans become "purified" they cannot become powerfull for the Conservative cause. It took a Carter to get a Reagan.

>allowing a "super-MINORITY" of just 14 Senators to block
>or confirm any nominee

actually it's 5 REPUBLICAN Senators who have the power.... that's how many votes Frist needs to refire the nuclear option.

This strikes me as perfectly reasonable, and just the kind of power balancing and horse trading that has always characterized the Senate.

Overall the deal is a win for the Republicans ... clears three of five nominees and SUBSTANTIALLY raises the bar on future use of the filibuster on nominees WIHTOUT the Republicans scaring the middle with a fairly blatant power play.

Missed it on TV but about 4 years ago a guy in one of my Electronic Communications classes took the final wearing one. People were lined up outside the door to see the guy. Pretty hard to focus on a final when you're trying not to laugh at the idiot a few seats down. When later asked about it the guy said aliens were stealing his brainwaves to prevent him from passing the course.

Same guy said his life's ambition was to earn enough money to buy a moped and join the peace corps.

Wow!

Maybe the TV reference was after some real-life phenomenon.

There are a LOT of scary people out there . . .

This is one New Hampshirite who will not be voting for Senator McCain in the Republican Primary. Also, I'm glad my 2 senator's Sununu and Gregg were not part of this, (although Sununu was one of those "on the line" Senators).

One could stretch a military pension pretty far in Costa Rico. Assuming, that is, that the moveon.org crowd doesn't take them away.
