Xer Ping

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effect Gen-Reagan/Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations (i.e. The Baby Boomers) are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

Freep mail me to be added or dropped. See my home page for details and previous articles.

I take heart in Flemming vs Nestor (1960) where the US Supreme Court ruled that no American citizen has a right to collect Social Security.

All we Gen-X/Gen-Y have to do is wait until enough of the baby boomers are too senile to vote or are 6 feet under, then we can vote Social Security into oblivion and leave them hanging out to dry.

I'm not putting much faith in this, though, so I am working hard now to amass a small fortune, then stash it in Switzerland somewhere and move myself to Belize or Costa Rica.

Now a days it's the old man,
He's got all the money.
And the young man?!
Ain't got nothing in the world these days!

FWIW, I'm a boomer (leading edge) and have not trusted Social Security since the early 70's. My retirement plans don't rely on Social Security, or pension plans. Part of the reason I'm in that position is my lack of trust in the government to keep its promises drove me to make other arrangements.

And, yes, I strongly support Social Security reform, including private accounts, but advise any one with a long planning horizon to get to a point where you have excess income allowing you to self fund you own retirement.

Just my 2 cents.

The elderly who are against Social Security reform are greedy and selfish. That's all there is to it. They simply don't care if the country goes down in flames, or if their grandchildren endure near-slavery under a crushing tax burden. Logic does not work. They want what's yours, and they intend to get it. If America declines to European status or worse in the process, so be it.

It infuriates me, frankly, because I'm one of the ones they are bilking.
