I am actively pursuing a 911 dispatch job. I just interviewed last week. Anyways, I did a sit-in at the Sheriff's compound and most of the calls were non-emergency. Most were from parents who couldn't control their kid/kids. Siblings fighting, son pissed off and ranting and raving. On one call, it took the dispatcher about 5 minutes to get info from a guy complaining about his roommate. The problem? his roommate wouldn't listen to him. And people complain about 911 being busy.

There should be fines for this. Of course the dispatcher has to be curtious while telling the idiots these are not 911 calls. I hope I get the job! lol

I see you will have a lot of laughs on the job, not just stress. But truly there should be fines for idiots who abuse the system. Maybe it will have to go the route of the 411 calls - charge per call. If you have an emergency, you'd be glad to pay the $1.50. If you call frivolously, you may call less often.

Good luck with the job!

Though if you get the job, you might not be able to share many of the worst 'non-emergency' emergency calls here on FR. Or maybe you would?
