Good morning all. Senate convenes at 9:30 am this morning, to vote on the nomination of Priscilla Owen. I've started the thread early, as I have to leave for a few hours, but also to give us a place to start commenting early on the events of yesterday....
She had a 9 minute strident yet boring speech...if you want to call anything she says a speech...yesterday....toward the end of the day when everyone was already passed out.
Following the vote on the Owen nomination, it is my expectation that we will move forward with the nomination of John Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations. Our colleagues on the other side of the aisle have indicated they would need a good deal of time to debate the nomination. We plan to complete action on the Bolton nomination this week, and I will work with the Democratic leader to lock in a time agreement on the nomination.
Mr. REID. Mr. President, if the distinguished majority leader will yield, I think it is appropriate that we have this vote at noon. We would have been willing to have it earlier. This way the committees can go about their business. I know I have a ranking members meeting at 12. So this will work out perfect. Even though we are waiting for the vote, I think this will work out well for the schedule.
Mr. FRIST. Mr. President, we have a good plan for the remainder of the week with that vote and proceeding with the nomination of John Bolton.
Did anyone see Allen on FNC? He said Bolton is next after Owen.
Hillie's been AWOL on a lot of subjects. She never said jack about the Schiavo case, for example. Folks in NYS have noticed. And we know why...
Does the minutes of the Convention say when abortion and gay marriage came up for discussion?
At least 60. At most 80.
I'll say 58 votes, but that may be a bit low.
Has anyone seen the new Tom DeLay commercials? Are things getting crazy our is it me? The commercial was pro-DeLay and likened the liberals to sharks! LOL Brought up the cBS phony story again!
My guess is 59 - 6 of the 7 Dems from the gang of 14 and 53 Republicans with two RINO defections.
He agreed to not engage in filibuster, but he voted against the cloture motion yesterday.
His partners in the agreement will give him a Mulligan. It isn't filibuster if the cloture motion passes or some such logic.
It will be listed on her resume as: interstate commerce and fair trade and a STATES RIGHTS issue.

Pretty thin!
Hillary did vote for cloture on Owen whereas Kerry voted nay.
The SCOTUS did the heavy lifting for her. Her poll numbers are still going south. The shine has worn off the apple.
LOL! I saw that ad! It was great!
Yup, she certainly did :) But now she's gonna have to vote yea or nay on Owen. Bwah hah hah hah hah...
My guess is that no Dems will vote for her. That way they can vote against her if the President nominates her for the SCOTUS. It will be 55-45 IMO.
It's a little crazy though don't you think? All these ad campaigns?
Well, the one I saw ran on Fox, which is the network most watched by people who care about this issue. The ad is in response to ones run by the left. If they are going to run ads, we have to do so as well.
I only watch Fox, otherwise I would ned blood pressure meds! I liked the ad and I am glad someone is sticking up for Tom!
