Such a great doggie story, Dolly. Oliver reminds me of my late, great dog Sam(antha). She was a German shepherd/collie/husky mix. She, too, kept me going when it would have been very easy to give in to the illness. She was very intuitive about just when I needed encouragement to get off my duff. She also knew when it was time to leave me alone to rest. She was truly my partner in this infirmity of mine just like a seeing eye dog is to the blind.

Sadly, she was prone to seizures and last summer she suffered a really bad one. We had to have her put to sleep last September. I miss her so much!

But, as luck would have it, we fell heir to our son's three legged doggie a couple of years ago when he went into the Navy. He had rescued her from the pound, a victim of abuse, when he was in college. She's an Aussie mix and a zany clown. She's not as intuitive as Sam was but she keeps me laughing. She's also physically limited endurance-wise and can't go on long walks either so we are perfect for each other.

I just cannot imagine being without a dog!

just cannot imagine being without a dog!

I am currently looking after my dad who has various health issues paticularly since mum had to go into care last November with Dementia. We had a rescue greyhound but unfortunately she had to be put down on January I miss her loads and at present it is just not practical for us to have another dog.

We do have racing pigeons though so still have some contact with living creatures.

My lovely late Gizzy

Oh, yes - our pets can be quite attuned to 'what ails us' and be both guardian angels and nurses.

Have to point out, though, this includes some of my kitties!!

Numerous times I have been sleeping, and one of the latter has awakened me to let me know my blood glucose was dropping, and I needed to GET UP! and treat the insulin reaction!!

One stretched out full length on my chest at 0430 to alert me - stared at me until I 'got the message' - and quite literally saved my life.
Had it continued much lower, I would have Exited Stage Left.

My present Binky Boy watches me like a hawk at night, and MANY times has felt the vibes and acted to wake me.
He was 2 when my niece had to find a home, becoming highly allergic to him - and thought, "Oh, Aunt Margaret will take him!"

"But I have another cat and -- " -- of course took him..:))

snugs, your Lizzy looks like the recued one my son, Steve, and his wife Sandy obtained from Greyhound Rescue -- name is Jenny -- after the first one they had for several years - Waldo - died.

It cannot be an accident that so many strays/unwanted/need a new home critters gravitate to some of us..:))

God's Critter Caretakers, is what we are --

I had meant to respond to you sooner.. I appreciate your sharing about your Sam ... I know how hard it is to say goodbye. The little furry "kids" just can't tell us what is wrong but seem to intuitively know what we need. Doesn't seem fair to them.

And you now have a tripod!!! God seems to give us what we need.. goodnight now. I am really going to try to unwind. Shows how busy I have been, only been to Amy's once & not even to Dose!

Sweet dreams Lakeside.
