WA Democratic Party Chairman implies nonunion workers more likely to become felons

p>Union membership has its benefits, including a crime-free life.

So says Paul Berendt, chairman of the Washington state Democrat Party, who was quoted on May 23 by the New York Times: “The Republican base has always been nonunion, white, blue-collar males, and that’s who the felons are in the state of Washington.”

Perhaps this explains recent actions by the Washington Legislature and Governor Christine Gregoire. By funding a contract that forces tens of thousands of state employees to pay union dues, the Democrat-controlled legislature may have been attempting to push more workers toward a crime-free lifestyle. Delaying the pay raise for nonunion state employees (who are more likely to be felons, according to Berendt) motivates them to become dues-paying union members, thereby guaranteeing more campaign contributions for the Democrats. It’s no surprise that Gov. Gregoire signed a bill that allows unions to multiply campaign contributions in excess of the state’s contribution limit.

State employees have been warned that they will be fired if they refuse to pay union dues. Accepting Berendt’s premise, this is just good public policy: Why keep felons on the state payroll?

That ignores the statistic that show criminals tend to favor the democrat party.

Also union membership has squat to do with criminality.

Apparently though being a member of the Washington Democrat Leadership can lead to massive retardation.

I can just imagine the reaction if a Republican in New York said that the Rat base has always been blue collar minority groups, and that that is where most of the criminals are in New York.

Numerically speaking, non-union Washingtonians outnumber unionized Washingtonians by about 100 to 1.

Who was it that said, "There are lies, damned lies and then there are statistics."?

But being a leader in some unions requires you to be a felon so you can get the "work" done. You know, busting heads, burning non-union buildings and equipment, etc.

Not only that but a good portion of those tax deductible union dues end up in the DNC coffers.

Even if the statistic were true, it commits the fallacy of false-cause. It's like saying, "Joe was smoking a cigarette while he was racing his motorcycle and crashed and wound up in the hospital. See, smoking is bad for your health."

Maybe being in the union just gives you the contacts you need to get the judge to let you off the hook.

But I don't accept the premises of this report to begin with.

If the Washington Democrats had their way, being a nonunion worker would be a felony.

Having worked at a port for several years (in a non union position), I can state with certainty that your list omitted one significant chore ... thievery.
