I'm a retired AF guy. The AF is unique for a number of reasons. One of them is that it is the only service where the officers are the combatants, and the enlisted members (the maintainers) send the officers off to die.
Having said that, Lindsey was a JAG. I was a JAG. So was my wife. I met Lindsey once; my wife knew him better, having shared office space in a large suite arrangement with him in Germany.
He was a very talented trial lawyer. He was prosecuting the military equivalent of felony cases, exclusively. With great success.
My wife says that if he had a girlfriend, she didn't meet her, or hear about one. She also says that she has absolutely no reason to suspect that he is gay. The man is a loner.

I didn't hear a sound bite. I heard and saw the whole interview live.
He spoke of the troops in Iraq as fighting there while the whole government fought this issue and perhaps held off deciding important matters while they were thus engaged. In no sense did he equate his actions with the bravery or risk of the troops.
That being said, he has proven himself a stupid twit by the action in support for McCain's grandstanding. The action was wrong enough on its face without accusing him of a comparison he didn't make on his interview after the decision was announced.

GRAHAM: There are kids in Iraq today and Afghanistan who don't have to be there. They volunteered to serve their nation and some of them are getting killed and some of them are getting injured and they all are subject to being shot at. They did something they didn't have to do for the good of the country. I didn't have to change my vote but I changed my vote knowing that if we don't try to cool off here, we're going to destroy the Senate and ruin the judiciary.
