But Ohio is very marginal state, and we run the risk of opening the door to a Dem gain if DeWine survives a tough primary. That's a risk I'd be willing to take, by the way.

I agree. I'd rather be disappointed once on Election Day than be disappointed over and over again afterwards.

Lindsey Graham quote: "The real big problem I had is "what happens if the Constitutional option failed?" There are FIVE SOLID NOs against the Constitutional option. There are 4 or 5 unknown. This was too close. Failure would be a disaster and really cause problems." \

Lindsey Graham is lying.

It is Frist's job to decide whether he has the 50 votes that he needed to execute the nuclear option not Lindsey Graham's.

And, given the uncertainty in the outcome that he refers to, think about who had the most to lose if they lost: .

Reid - Death to any hopes the Dems would have to stop any Pubbie nomination to the Circuit Courts or the Supreme Court. And Reid only had 5 votes that he could count on from the Republicans. On a scale of 1 to 10 with death being a 10 Reid was 9+. He had to be ready to fold, supply the votes to get cloture and live to fight again another day.

Frist - Embarassement. But he could call for a nuclear option vote any time in the future if the Dems filibustered. And Frist thought he had 50 solid votes, maybe 51. Frist gets a 2-3 on a scale of 10.

Unless Lindsey Graham is an idiot (yes, after listening to him on Sean's show today I have to admit to the possibility) then he understands all of this and knows that he helped the Republicans once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

My view - he likes the sound of McCain-Graham 2008 and is foolish or naive enough to think this could help him. Lindsey Graham will never ever win the nomination to anything ever again. He is deader than a doornail.

[there's a deep pool of electable conservative talent in South Carolina]

With Graham's grandstanding, freepers here may actually rally aroung David Beasley to defeat Lindsey Graham.

Lindsey Graham is the problem, but David Beasley isn't the answer.

I'd be tempted to move across the state line into Baja Carolina to be able to vote for Sanford, Ravenel, or Inglis, should any of them decide to take on Graham in a primary. But Beasley? Yesterday's news, burned bridges, damaged goods, twice defeated, all that stuff. No thanks.
