Perkins is commander of the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade. In a campaign marked by bold maneuvers and risk-taking, his two "Thunder Runs" into the heart of Baghdad on April 5 and April 7 were among the war's most aggressive tactics. His brigade was also selected to seek out and destroy a portion of the Republican Guard's Medina Division that had been bypassed in the coalition's advance on Baghdad. In these excerpts from Col. Perkins's extended interview, he describes the challenges his brigade confronted in these three missions.

Back in the Old Days, before 911, Conservatives Like Me worried about reports that Bill Clinton's army was doing huge military training operations based on "urban warfare" senerios. After all, we the paranoid Right reasoned, why would this kind of training be needed, unless Bubba planned a power-grab and our own cities would be aflame?
Sadly, today we know the reason why.
At this same time, we heard reports via Art Bell on huge "secret crematoria", and hidden rail-yards that we reasoned would be used to dispose of people like us when the End Times came. Back then, we would have laughed at the idea of a smallpox plague let out of the bottle by Jehad-crazed idiots. Today, those facilities seem all too useful.
And for the perfect Trifecta, there was a time when concerned Conservatives like myself littered their emails with words like "assassination" and "terror", we thought to jam Carnivore, which was assuredly a trick by the Clintonistas to develop software to track everybody.
What a difference a few years can make. What a sad difference.
Hats off to our boys and girls in uniform. We are four years plus into a war that struggles to save us from madmen, and we hardly notice it. We are such a rich country that there are no tin drives, no rationing, no gas coupons, and yet we get to stand, almost alone, saving the world for a third time. And for it, we get the whining of the French, the grumbling of the Russians, and the arrogant sneers of the Celeberatzi.
May the wings of Liberty never lose a feather. Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition.

The book "Thunder Run" is a great account of this daring tactic.

And .. it was a FOX guy who was riding with Col Perkins - and from what little we saw of Perkins - I was so impressed with his skills. This guy has at least one Masters degree - and it might possibly be more.

This could not have happened. The MSM had assured us we were in a quagmire. Brig. Gen. (ret) Leslie Stahl told Collin Powell our supply lines were exposed. A real retired general, Barry McCaffrey, said we would have 3,000 KIA in taking Baghdad. So this must be wrong. /SARCASM

I'll never forget Fox's coverage of Perkin's "Thunder Run" into Baghdad. I stayed-up all night.
Somebody please tell me he is writing a book, and the movie is coming.
