"What is the big deal?"

We no longer have 50 votes (plus Cheney) to go "nuclear" if we ever did. Those 7 dunces just pledged to NOT vote for the "nuclear" option and to allow the Democrats to fillibuster nominees they (the Dems) find extreme. That is the BIG DEAL.

The president can tell them to stuff their agreement then fill all vacancies with a recess appointment.

Oh for heaven's sake, it's "blind-SIDED" not "blind-sighted".

And the senators care more about getting along and getting reelected than they do about whether a second-term president likes them.

He really CAN'T do much to them, the legislature is not under his control.

He certainly is saying this is a victory for the centrists in congress and a victory to the moderates throughout the country. I had to turn it off when he began the same old refrain that President Clinton was denied up and down votes, blah blah blah with Sean taking the bait and raising his voice several octaves. I'm so tired of these people believing that volume trumps reasoning. Can't wait for Hume to put this in prospective tomorrow.

Rhenquists replacement will not be voted on in this Congress.

This Congress is only 1/4th of the way through.

I'm starting to wonder if he (McCain) might pull a third party stunt in 2008."

It was "pulled" today,by the Republican Party.

It's a win, the Rats caved in

How do you figure? Near as I can tell, this is what the Rats wanted. They said three judges will get an up or down vote, but they didn't say which ones.

that is not true. Dewine and graham say that if the dems filibuster future nominations, they will walk away from their pledge to not go nuclear. which means we will have the 51 votes, one more than we need.

Frist did not say he would not go nuclear if they decided to fillibuster. He said all options are still on the table and we will see about the good faith agreement. The Constitutional option has been delayed. That is all. The fight will be another day. In the meantime, 3 judges will be voted on and confirmed. What exactly did we give up? I would say nothing significant.

Oh yes it's worked so well winning back the Senate didn't it? What's next? A super-duper majority will get it right? Thanks but no. I didn't vote for a Republican in 02 and I won't be voting for a Republican for Congress anytime soon. Republicans had their chance and what has it given us? Runaway spending and a willingness to bend over backwards to compromise

Being a cynic is good. At least, you are never disappointed. I don't trust any politician. The worst you can do is dance to the tune of any political party. I heard the White House press secretary saying this morning that they expect an up-or-down vote. They must think we are stupid.

What exactly did the Republicans lose with this agreement?

The ability to run the senate as a cohesive majority, and lot of votes and a lot of money in 2006. The ability of the majority leader to push the president's agenda on taxes, SS reform, etc.

The Governor would appoint his replacement. The current Governor is a Democrat. So you know who would fill his seat.

Yeah, but not a SCOTUS nomination.

POTUS should recess appoint Myers and Saad, the two they shafted.

My wife and I just resigned from our Republican City and County committees. Actually, we were rather noisy and rude about it.

Our RINO senators (Maine) sold us out. Those media whores insured we will lose on Bolton, lose on any good Supreme Court nominees and flushed down the toilet any hope we had to save any of the bases in Maine that were closing. We told them we could not support any organization that in any way allowed those weasles to remain in power.

The only positives I can see are that neither McCain nor Frist will ever have a chance in hell of being president.

We spent over 100 hours and about a grand of our meager resources in the last election cycle getting republicans elected.

Never again. Until we get rid of our traitors within, we will not contribute a dime.

Heck. I will contribute to the democrat opposition to Snowe in 06.

I would compare this to a robber who comes into your house and attempts to take everything you own. When you holler and threaten him with a weapon, he deals with you and gets you to agree to an idiotic "compromise": you can keep some of your things, but he reserves the "right" to take some of them from you if he really reall really wants them. Then the media and everyone in the outside world applauds and calls the robber a "moderate."

THEY NEVER HAD THE RIGHT TO FILIBUSTER IN THE FIRST PLACE! They've been denying all the other Senators their right to vote. They are the extremists.
