You'd have trouble earning that kind of money running a small business in my neck of the woods.

Years ago, an old friend of mine made the observation that the single moms he knew "were in the business of having babies."

At the time in my state, there was no cross-checking of names & addresses for recipients of government benefits. That has changed, but back then, you had a baby, got what you could in your own name, then went back as Aunt, Grandmom, whatever, for new rounds of checks. It was a pretty good-paying racket while it lasted.
